Yesterday, the socialists and social democrats “stormed” the centre of Albania, Tirana, with a spectacular rally. For three hours straight, the Palace of Congresses, filled with chants of “Vlora—Vlora” and “The left will win,” brought together the progressive front in its reunited form to present the programme that will govern Albania after June 29. With a parade of the 15 leading capital-city candidates before thousands of Tirana supporters, the Albanian left stressed that its alternative is the best one being offered to the country at this difficult moment in its history, and therefore asked those gathered in the Palace of Congresses to ensure it receives the majority of votes from Albanians throughout the country and from the capital’s residents. Socialist leaders called for Albania to be governed differently. “This is what people and their votes demand,” they said, urging people to turn this opportunity, which will come through their votes, into change.
