As part of the new relations established between the branches of government, and in keeping with the promise of transparent and open governance, yesterday afternoon the head of government, Mr. Fatos Nano, informed Parliament about the achievements of the high-level government delegation’s visit to Rome. The Prime Minister considered the Rome mission successful and its results part of Albania’s now irreversible process of progress. Nano described the meetings held with his Italian counterparts and the conference held on 31 July as the beginning of a new phase that would lead to the establishment of order, national reconciliation, the creation of a state with modern institutions, and macroeconomic stabilization. Considering the Rome Conference a well-coordinated first step in Albania’s recovery strategy, Nano informed Parliament of the priorities presented in Rome by the Albanian Government, which were considered fully justified there, as well as the international community’s plans to help Albania recover. He noted that this assistance would be provided in three phases: emergency aid, medium-term assistance and long-term assistance. The Rome Conference would also be followed by two further conferences: the Rome conference in September and the Brussels conference in October. Nano praised the constructive stance of the new opposition participating in Parliament, as well as its representative who attended the Rome Conference. On this occasion, he stressed the need for the old opposition to abandon its policy of self-exclusion and to embrace once again a new concept of governance, with an open “government majority” and a constructive opposition. After Nano’s speech, the members of Parliament heard questions, which were answered by State Minister Kastriot Islami, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Paskal Milo, Minister of the Interior Neritan Ceka, and Minister of Finance Arben Malaj.
