The Italian government will offer assistance to the Albanian police if the Albanian government makes a specific request and chooses a special form of cooperation with its police and security personnel. Referring to reports from ANSA, the spokesman for the Italian government, N?jo Nano - expected in the coming days - sent a telegram message yesterday to the president, the prime minister and the deputy prime minister Pavel Hajdari. The government communiqué published yesterday refers to the new relations of good-neighborliness between the two countries and to the importance the Italian government attaches to Albania. The police force and the judicial system, as well as the rules for Albania’s normal economic functioning, remain among the difficult issues still being developed. Referring to the government spokesman, the Italian police will be ready to follow and coordinate its actions with the local police structures, which must continue reorganizing personnel, operational lines, revenues, and solve long-standing problems in the police, including the poor communications situation.
