I am convinced that the government led by you, thanks to its determination and experience, will continue in this direction. In particular, I value your Government’s support for Albania’s participation in NATO activities and for speeding up the European Union procedures for my country. In closing this letter, allow me to emphasize my government’s wish for the next round of regular meetings between our countries. Sincerely, Fatos Nano Prime Minister of Albania In the middle of his visit to London, the most successful move so far by the government led for more than three months by the Albanian prime minister, Fatos Nano. Most importantly, this is not a ceremonial visit, but one that will leave a mark on relations between the two countries. For the most part of their history, Great Britain and Albania have been affected by different peripheries. Albania has been very far from our small country, while Great Britain, our middle power, located on the periphery of Southern Europe, has been regarded by Albanians as the most welcoming and fairest Western country for their current crisis, above the exhausting ordeal of the ruined laws of the past 50 years. This determination continues today, as we are trying to create a democratic state for a people armed to the teeth, uprooting the tendency toward revenge and sparing the next generation of Albanians the suffering of their nation. Since the creation of this British government, we have sought to do something, not through words, but by actually doing something. The UK watched with bitterness as fraudulent firms broke the law and increased chaos in Albania. I am aware of our responsibility to help rebuild this country and develop it. Our cooperation aims to help Albania take its deserved place in the family of the nations of Europe. Page 5
