DP: protest in Tirana, flames in Shkodër, TNT in Gjirokastër PAGES 2–3 TIRANA — The leader of the opposition Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared yesterday evening that he was creating paramilitary formations in the service of his party. Returning from the rally-demonstration in Skënderbej Square, along “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, and back to Skënderbej Square, Berisha found the square in front of his party headquarters nearly empty and announced his next strategy. Before a crowd of around 200 people, Chairman Berisha showed that he had not abandoned his aim of returning to power through violence. Berisha said that if, within the next 24 hours, Nano did not release the six former officials of his administration, he would announce the creation of the Liberation Army of Freedom. According to him, this military formation would free Zhualalin, Çela, Shamata, Mulosmani, Lusha, Rama from prison. The Albanian police, regularly informed about the violent actions of the opposition Democratic Party, managed yesterday to prevent bloody events in Tirana. It met all the confrontations insistently sought by the thuggish duo Berisha-Hajdari. Meanwhile, just a few hours before the rally, police had managed to stop four people armed with Kalashnikovs in front of the Democratic Party headquarters. In Shkodër, after the bombing and fire at the Socialist Party headquarters, police managed to detain two more people, one a thief and the other a highly wanted person. Local DP leaders said they were members of their party. Yesterday, OSCE representatives in Tirana followed events closely, having issued a statement calling violence unacceptable. Meanwhile, beyond their watchful eye, Berisha spoke quite openly yesterday about creating military formations affiliated with his party.
