PD: The killer is Jaho Salihi
Last night, the Democratic Party first revealed that one of the leaders of the right-wing opposition, Azem Hajdari, and his bodyguard were shot and left wounded. Sali Berisha declared from the headquarters of the palace that the killer is Jaho Salihi, and that this person was about 20 meters away at the moment of the attack and approached in a vehicle. According to him, one of the deputy’s bodyguards was also killed.
Sources from the military hospital said last night that 7 bullets were fired at the opposition figure and that the wounds were severe. The police were reportedly investigating at the scene. The Democratic Party is still verifying this night the name of the person suspected of being the perpetrator of the killing.
Statement from the Ministry of Public Order
Deeply shaken, with a broken heart, and on behalf of the Government and the Albanian people, I express my deepest condolences to the family of Deputy Azem Hajdari, killed last night, and to the family of his driver and bodyguard, Ujri Vehbiu, also killed last night, in front of the Democratic Party headquarters. The tragic news has caused indescribable shock among all Albanians. First and foremost, the Government is determined to uncover and punish, with the force of law, the killers of Democratic Party deputy Azem Hajdari. It considers this murder a terrorist act aimed at destabilizing Albania, destroying the climate of peace and understanding in the country, and inciting anarchy and conflict.
The public order forces are working intensively to catch the culprits and shed light on all the circumstances of this grave event. The Albanian Government appeals for calm, self-restraint and maturity in these difficult moments, guaranteeing that the constitutional order and the normal functioning of the state will be protected at all costs.
