Italian and Albanian prosecutors draw up the lists TIRANA—While the Italian anti-mafia authorities have all sprung into action to discover as quickly as possible organized criminal groups operating in Italy, fruitful cooperation has also begun with their Albanian counterparts. According to information from the Albanian Prosecutor’s Office, the Anti-Mafia authorities are said to have learned that the Italian side has shown great interest in all information concerning people suspected of having established their sphere of activity there. A very long list of the names of criminals apprehended by Italian police, as well as many of those considered extremely dangerous and wanted, is now in the hands of anti-mafia prosecutors and Interpol officers. Based on the information held by this agency, it is understood that more than half of this group, classified as “dangerous,” are former members of the most active gangs, which have not only operated but continue to operate through their networks, mainly in the areas of Fier and Berat. Two of the leaders of these gangs were arrested in recent days by Milan police, and according to the file sent to the Prosecutor’s Office by their Italian counterparts, the individuals long wanted for serious crimes, mainly in the Myzeqe area, are said to have committed a mountain of crimes in the neighboring country as well.
