In Meha, 20 Albanians killed and 30 wounded

MEHA — At least 20 Albanians were killed on Wednesday in the [?] on Wednesday in western Kosovo. The victims were in a convoy of cars and tractors, near the village of Meha, about 5 km from the border with Albania. Survivors stressed that the bombardments, the first since many aircraft [?], began at around 13:30–14:00. Bombed at the site about two hours after the bombardments, an AFP journalist saw [?] tractors and many crushed, destroyed [?]. The bodies of men and that of a little girl lay dismembered or charred on the road. Some had their heads severed. Immediately after the media raised concerns about a NATO mistake during the bombing near a road to Gjakova, which caused 20 casualties among Albanians, Pentagon spokesman Bejken denied it, saying that American pilots would never fire on Albanian civilians. He said the Pentagon had satellite images showing that Serbian soldiers had got out of their convoys and had fired at the vehicles of a column of [?], in which many Albanians were travelling. Bejken said the aircraft had spotted two columns, one with Serbian soldiers and the other with Albanian civilians. He added that the aircraft had attacked the Serbian military column, striking it. Immediately after the strike, Bejken continued, Serbian soldiers retaliated against the Albanians, killing 18 and wounding dozens more.
Albanians with severed heads were also found at the scene. This is one of the cases following the massacre at Reçak, where people’s heads were severed.
