We will stop Slobo’s poisonous hatred

The President of the Americans[?] WASHINGTON - American President Bill Clinton, during a program on Thursday night, addressed the public and asked that attention be focused on a moral issue and on the "moral" responsibility to support NATO military actions in Yugoslavia. He called the conflict in Kosovo a "moral challenge" and said the Serbian army is involved in "ethnic cleansing". Clinton said that hundreds of thousands of refugees "fled in terror, most with the threat of weapons over their heads and their livestock were driven away from them". "In the face of ethnic hatred and ethnic cleansing we must put on the scale the side of tolerance". He said that a war must be won in order to win peace and not a peace that breeds hatred. He said that the United States and its allies are not fighting for territory, but for values, and that NATO’s bombing campaign is confronting his decision with a moral challenge. "We fight for values and not for people," he added. In the televised public question-and-answer segment, Clinton said that 100,000 people were killed or disappeared during the Bosnian war, blaming the delay of Western intervention. "All this was terrible, and still after five years. All this allowed their generals, police bosses, thieves and murderers to carry out their barbarities, for which they are now being held to account". He described Kosovo as "holy land" for the Serbs, but added that Serbia has no right to destroy a people. He also said that the aim of the air strikes is to make it possible for refugees to return to Kosovo. "This is the right condition". "If the war must be won and not merely stopped, then we must be sure that the things that need to be done have been done and have been done in the right way," Clinton said. He said that NATO’s bombing has not weakened the alliance, but rather strengthened it. "In six weeks we are more united than ever," he said, while mentioning that for the first time some countries have set aside old disagreements to deal with the Kosovo crisis. He admitted that there may be difficulties, but stressed that the fate of Kosovo[?] will not be left in peace with the aggressors. VISIT: www.albanianonline.net (click on page 3)
