Police round up thieves in Tirana, Lezhë and Tepelenë

LEZHË-TEPELENË — On Friday at 12:00, the Lezhë District Police Station detained Edmond Filipi, 22, from the village of Gjader in Lezhë; Mark Gega, 25, from the village of Mjedë in Shkodër; and Lulash Gjoka, 29, from La-Vau i Dejës, Shkodër. Sources from the Public Order Police report that they were detained because the previous day, at around 15:20, at a place called “Stallat e Gjadrit,” beside the national road that passes through the village of Gjadër in the district of Lezhë, they had been travelling in their “Benz” vehicle, license plate SH 6145C, when they fired a weapon and robbed a “Volkswagen” vehicle belonging to a resident of Tirana, who was travelling toward Shkodër with several Kosovars. The “Benz” with license plate SH 6145C, used in the robbery, was impounded. Three sacks containing the stolen vehicles were found in it, along with a model 56 automatic rifle, two magazines with ammunition, a cassette player and two speakers belonging to the robbed vehicle. On Friday, Tepelenë police arrested a man at the turnoff to the town of Memaliaj for attempting a robbery. According to police spokesperson Bujar Çela, 25, from the town of Memaliaj, tried to rob passengers on a Kavajë-Tirana route bus, but fortunately nothing came of it. At the Memaliaj turnoff, just a few metres from the town entrance, Çela took advantage of the bus stopping to pick up several passengers and threatened the travellers, ordering them to empty their pockets. But the immediate alert to the police rapid-response unit patrolling this stretch of road meant that the would-be robber was quickly put in handcuffs.
