Majko: The assault on crime in Durrës

TIRANË- The “commando” units will take over the port of Durrës. Prime Minister Ilir Meta has ordered the deployment of commandos at the port to exercise control over it. Majko has ordered the installation of security measures at key points in the port, 24 hours a day, to prevent any attempt by suspicious individuals to leave by ship. According to this decision, the cells will be checked with handheld detectors, while suspicious vehicles will undergo a thorough inspection. There are suspicions that the former chief of Milošević’s secret service and his Interior Minister, Vlajko Stojiljkoviç, are trying to leave from the port of Durrës. It was the local police’s idea, and their chief’s solution was to offer a larger vessel. At first, small fishing boats were considered, but later the police decided to keep only large vessels under surveillance. Whatever the measures, it seems that at least yesterday crime continued its activity at an intense pace. The legend of Haxhi Shabani’s helicopter escape also seems likely to be no more than a fabricated tale, disproving the excuse of a stolen vehicle to enable another escape. In the evening it was learned that the capital’s police announced that the civilian person being questioned in an office at the Durrës police station, the lone criminal, is the same person who had been under investigation for days, reportedly the close companion of a person whose vehicle had been rigged with explosives. Also yesterday the city was placed on alert. After the call reporting a bomb placed in the building of the Antena television station, numerous police forces were deployed, along with explosives experts, creating an unusual situation around the premises. According to sources from the Durrës police, some officers were sent to the beach area, where two people fired weapons. One of them has been identified as a person wanted for murder and serious injury. In property disputes at the city castle, the police arrested four people accused of property damage and illegal possession of weapons. In one neighborhood of Durrës, police detained several people suspected of vehicle theft. In total, according to the data, several criminal incidents were recorded yesterday in Durrës, which shows that the police are struggling to restore order.
