BULLETS AGAINST ARMED PEOPLE Police take a firm grip on Tropojë • Rapid Intervention Forces from Laç and Elbasan, acting as the local police, are controlling the entrances and patrolling the city streets without interruption. • Meanwhile, a group of the Ministry’s Special Forces is also in Tropojë; a subunit of the Commando Forces is taking charge of guarding particularly important state facilities in the city. • An operational headquarters of the Ministry, headed by the Director of the Rapid Intervention and Special Forces, Niko Brahimaj, has begun work to manage the situation in the city and district of Tropojë. • Poçi signs a detailed plan of measures. It sets out in detail all future actions, from reorganizing the local police structures to cracking down on criminal activity wherever it exists or manifests itself. • The Tropojë Police Commissariat is temporarily detached from the authority of the Kukës Police Directorate. All communications will be directly with the Ministry. • The mined section of the road remains mined. Assistance from military engineering experts is being sought to make it possible to clear the road. • The Kërnaja clan refuses a forensic examination of the bodies, while the Haklaj clan agrees to one several hours before the burial. The funerals were held in Tropojë and Kërnajë at 17:00. No disturbance for the police. • The police have moved to readiness level No. 2 throughout the country. The Committee of LANÇ Veterans, in cooperation with the FRESSH leadership and the local authorities of the Skrapar district, is organizing activities on Sunday, 8.8.’99, at 10:00, in the Lirëzë field of Helmës, commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Congress of the Albanian Anti-Fascist Youth Union.
