Prime Minister Ilir Meta and PSSH chairman Fatos Nano were at Harvard University yesterday. In the morning, they were received by the dean of the Kennedy School of Government, who briefed them on the school’s history and on the contribution this educational tradition has made to preparing prominent figures and leaders throughout the world. Prime Minister Ilir Meta briefed the university’s administrators on developments in Albania and the region and asked about the possibility of educating as many Albanian students as possible at Harvard. Prime Minister Meta then also signed the university’s book of honor. During the day, Prime Minister Ilir Meta and PSSH chairman Fatos Nano took part in a discussion on Albanian and regional issues with a number of professors and guests from scientific and political journals. They answered the many questions from those present, which concerned developments in Albania; progress in establishing public order, macroeconomic reforms and the privatization process; preparations for the local elections; and the country’s foreign policy and relations with Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro. Prime Minister Meta then met with journalists, answering their questions about the situation in Albania and the region and Albania’s role in European developments. At the end of his stay at Harvard, Prime Minister Meta and chairman Fatos Nano delivered talks to an audience of students and lecturers on the following topics, respectively: “Albanian Transition” and “Albanians in the New Balkans.” A question-and-answer session is currently continuing.
