September 1990 marked one of the most extraordinary days in the history of Kaçanik and Kosovo.
Through its institutions, Kosovo organized a referendum to express Kosovo's institutional position, the goal of self-rule, and separation from the then Yugoslav federation. Because of Serbia's unjust repression and the prospect of a possible military intervention by Serbia, the referendum was held in an atmosphere of pressure, but the representatives of the Kosovar people gathered and decided on Kosovo's status as an independent unit with the right to self-determination, expressing their will for independence. Kaçanik became a symbol of determination to advance the aspirations for freedom and the Albanian national identity in Kosovo.
With the aim of signing the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo, today, 26 years later, another important anniversary is devoted to Kaçanik.

Nëpërmjet të institucioneve të saj, Kosovë organizoi një referendum për të shprehur qëndrimin institucional të Kosovës, qëllim-in e mbarëvetes dhe shkëputjen nga federata e atëhershme jugosllave. Për shkak të represionit të padrejtë të Serbisë dhe parashikimit të një ndërhyrjeje të mundshme ushtarake nga Serbia, ai referendum u zhvillua në një atmosferë shtypjeje, por përfaqësuesit e popullit kosovar u mblodhën dhe vendosën për statusin e Kosovës si njësi e pavarur me të drejtë të vetëvendosjes, duke shprehur vullnetin e tyre për pavarësi. Kacanik u bë simbol i vendosmërisë për të çuar përpara aspiratat e lirisë dhe të identitetit kombëtar shqiptar në Kosovë.
Me qëllim, nënshkrimin e Deklaratës së Pavarësisë së Kosovës, sot e 26 vjet më vonë, Kacanikut i kushtohet një tjetër përvjetor i rëndësishëm.

Attraverso le sue istituzioni, il Kosovo organizzò un referendum per esprimere la posizione istituzionale del Kosovo, l'obiettivo dell'autogoverno e la separazione dalla allora federazione jugoslava. A causa della repressione ingiusta della Serbia e del timore di una possibile intervento militare serbo, il referendum si svolse in un clima di pressione, ma i rappresentanti del popolo kosovaro si riunirono e decisero lo status del Kosovo come unità indipendente con il diritto all'autodeterminazione, esprimendo la loro volontà di indipendenza. Kaçanik divenne un simbolo di determinazione nel portare avanti le aspirazioni di libertà e l'identità nazionale albanese in Kosovo.
Con l'obiettivo della firma della Dichiarazione di Indipendenza del Kosovo, oggi, 26 anni dopo, a Kaçanik viene dedicato un altro importante anniversario.
