By Dalip Greca Mako-Nano ends up in a hunger strike. There is not enough priority and the importance of Kosovo. This is the future of the Albanian state. If Serbia has not changed its attitude toward Kosovo, why should it have changed its attitude toward Albanians in general? Why should we ask that Albania become developed and reach its European standard when it has done nothing for Kosovo? This question, which many Albanians are asking at this time, is legitimate and correct. There is nothing in the daily statements of the Albanian government that would prove otherwise. Prime Minister Fatos Nano has often said that Albania’s economy and its future development can be achieved only through European integration, normalization of relations with the world, and a change in thinking about Kosovo. If the Albanian government were clearer and more honest in its stance toward Kosovo, then perhaps many things would change. There are other questions: why are Albanians not part of Serbia? Why have Albanians always been subjected to such treatment? Why are Albania and Serbia enjoying the same privileges? There is nothing frightening for us at this point. And to be consistent, we must speak openly. Is this a state of Kosovo? Is this a government of Albania? These questions must be put to the servants of the institutions. And we, as Albanians, must demand a new policy for Kosovo. It is true that Albanians have never been part of Serbia. They have been part of Serbian legends, used for political purposes. This must be understood clearly. What is happening today in Kosovo is a drama that requires a just and swift solution.
