WE WARMLY WELCOME THE MANIFESTO OF 182 INTELLECTUALS

On 13 March 1992, we became acquainted with the manifesto of a group of 182 Albanian intellectuals entitled: "The Homeland Is Calling Us!". WE WARMLY WELCOME THE MANIFESTO OF 182 INTELLECTUALS On 13 March 1992, we became acquainted with the manifesto of a group of 182 Albanian intellectuals entitled: "The Homeland Is Calling Us!". We congratulate them on this deeply patriotic initiative, which, in these delicate and difficult moments, comes to the aid of Albania. Through a scientific analysis, taking into account not party beliefs but the good of the country, these academics, professors, doctors, lecturers, senior scientific collaborators and doctoral candidates have reached fundamental conclusions. They demand that order and peace be established in Albania and that technical progress be developed. They demand an end to chaos, anarchy and harsh political-social conflicts. And for this all-Albanian aspiration to be realized, the TRUE DEMOCRATIC OPPOSITION must take the lead in the country's governance. Because Albania cannot be reborn by those who brought it to this miserable state. They are absolutely right when they call for solidarity and a vote for the opposition, because "THE POLITICAL FORCES THAT BROUGHT THE COUNTRY INTO HUMILIATION THROUGH THE ELECTIONS OF 31 MARCH, NOW GATHERED ONLY AROUND THE SOCIALISTS, ARE NOT CAPABLE OF GOVERNING THE COUNTRY ANY LONGER." We, as Republicans, call on all intellectuals,

THE ALBANIAN ECONOMY IS AT "FULL RISK"!

Two faint signals, broadcast on television about the partial resumption of work at two textile combines in Berat and Tiranë, remind the people of this land of the word "work." THE ALBANIAN ECONOMY IS AT "FULL RISK"! — THE REPUBLICAN ALTERNATIVE FOR COMING OUT OF THIS SITUATION — Two faint signals, broadcast on television about the partial resumption of work at two textile combines in Berat and Tiranë, remind the people of this land of the word "work." It has now become so distant. In the whirlwind of today’s accelerating pace, only a few lines have entered the picture. People are dragged from morning to evening, and only when they are near the table, when it is time to eat, do they remember that the all-important word "WORK" exists. Having killed this word within ourselves, left it orphaned, the solution of communism destroyed people’s faith in themselves. Now they wait and wait for work. It is a threshold that pushes us all toward a new road or, put differently, leads us all into the unknown and untested labyrinths of the market economy. But only in theory. In any case, we have gone on about it for a long time, for a year now. The 22nd of March this spring reserves something more for us. Didn’t we know how "well suited our hands are for work"? Well then, work is more than a way to earn a living. But where will we work? With what will we work? The Albanian economy has been going downhill for some time, and propaganda has rightly given it away. Indeed, the one that was brought down for 50 years, the one they wanted to control with the "new economic mechanism," received its first collapse with the anti-economic wage increases, rejecting every economic logic (of course, for political reasons). Now it is the very same people who swear they can pull the Albanian economy out of "mess" and bring it to a complete stop. Political interference in the economy has already brought the Albanian economy close to "full risk." Even after this, these sons of politicians continue to lie openly, shamelessly, even when all they have in hand are "straw keys." And, as expected, they demand (if given the chance) that the market economy, this important economic venture, be built "simply," with a partisan spirit, etc. Should one be optimistic about the future of the Albanian economy? Undoubtedly. But here, in this optimism, one must place the alternative that will be represented. There is no doubt that, as far as the war is concerned, the victory of the opposition will not be counted as clear, but even after that, the calculations must be accurate. "The savings of the whole world, a seminar recently held by Bob Krieble, president of the American institute of the same name, told us — will not...

PEOPLE THE PARLIAMENT NEEDS...

They are Republicans. PEOPLE THE PARLIAMENT NEEDS... "They are Republicans. They are candidates to be elected to our new parliament. I have known them during this year. They have impressed me with their democratic spirit, their character, and their integrity. That is why, from among our entire list of candidates, I will focus only on those I know best, those with whom I have worked and for whom I have a special respect. And I will begin with Tamara Luarasi. She is the only lady presented by the Republicans as a candidate. And not because a woman also has to be included. Not at all. But because Mrs. Tamara is a true democrat, an honest Republican, clean, sincere, and courageous. She is a mother with many obligations and parental feelings, and yet, at the meetings of our steering committee, which often go on late into the night, she stays. She listens, thinks, and speaks when it is necessary and as much as necessary. She also has the courage to speak at sports events and rallies. She does not forget her speech at the rally held on the occasion of PRSH's twentieth anniversary. She spoke, her hands trembling slightly from emotion, because the square in front of the studies was huge and there were many people. But she spoke from the heart, with courage, saying true things. That is why PRSH, in the practical list here information, has placed her seventh. Her election would make our parliament more beautiful, giving it greater value. When I write about Tamara, Eduard Ypi comes to mind. An economist sentenced to prison under this and his. A man determined to keep the Republican Party clean, so that the right-wing hatred of PSSH does not influence its direction. A man who speaks his mind openly and courageously. He was the only Republican who stood up against me when he was proposed for the Steering Committee. And he was right, because he knew that I was not a member of that party. So, I had joined a little later than the others. I value the fact that he does not pretend, that he does not stay silent when he has a different opinion. That is what democracy needs: to tell the truth, to discuss it, and then let the most reasonable opinion prevail. But not to bear grudges because we said and spoke as we thought. I look at the candidates. I also want to write about Sabri Godo. PETRO DHIMITRI (To be continued on page 2)
