We believe in our program for solving the country’s problems

Speech by Mr. Godo delivered yesterday at the LDSH rally in Pukë I don’t want to waste your time talking about your history, because all the politicians who come here do that. In any case, I cannot know the history of Pukë better than your elders and the cultural figures of this district. I will limit myself to saying that Pukë is a passage from Central Albania to the North, and that is why the Right-Wing League pays particular attention to this mountainous place of rugged beauty. In fact, it is from here that we are beginning the League’s introduction, before moving on to Kukës, Has and Tropojë. I have been tasked by the League’s leadership with speaking about its program, something I also requested myself. Presenting the League’s program is no easy task, because it encompasses all the political, social and economic issues of the elections and other matters concerning the future. Therefore, I will focus on a few points of this program. We are the political grouping that openly states that we seek the unification of the Nation within its ethnic borders, denied to it by the great powers in the year Continued on p. 4

Legal professionals accuse one another of not knowing the law

Yesterday, the Court of Cassation set 20 September as the date for the hearing of Fatos Nano before the Court of Cassation, but the Prosecutor General, who is on official business in London, has requested that the trial not take place. The government also asked the Constitutional Court yesterday to suspend the proceedings of the Plenum of the Court of Cassation, since after The Minister of Justice also said in a statement to television that, following the entry into force of the new Criminal Code, “the Plenum is unlawful,” while Brozi, regarding the non-holding of Nano’s trial on the announced date (12 September), in addition to the absence of the Prosecutor General, added

and 11 are still considered missing

At least three people died yesterday and 11 others are still considered missing, while another 16 people were rescued from aboard a rubber boat carrying illegal migrants. The boat caught fire, the port of Bari reported. The causes of the incident have not been established, but the possibility that the fire broke out because petrol containers were being carried on board has not been ruled out, AFP reports. Meanwhile, the ANSA news agency cites as the cause of the deaths of three people and the disappearance of 11 others a collision that occurred in the southern Adriatic, in Albanian territorial waters, between the ferry Trojet and a motorboat that had left the port of Vlora, in Albania. Early reports say that 16 people were rescued by the US frigate Nicolas, which is on patrol duty to enforce the embargo against the former Yugoslavia.

Mr. Godo meets with French deputies

On 10 September, PR chairman Mr. Sabri Godo met with a group of French deputies led by the head of the delegation, Mr. Markys. Mr. Godo spoke about the longstanding and special relations between the two countries. After outlining the country’s political situation and economic problems, Mr. Godo gave the French guests detailed explanations about the laws on land and the directions of the reform. Considering France one of Europe’s leading powers, Mr. Godo said that Albania feels the need for support and for intensive relations in all fields. Mr. Godo thanked France for supporting Albania’s admission to the Council of Europe. For their part, the French deputies asked many questions. During the candid conversation, which they [?] with great interest, the conviction was expressed that relations between the two countries would develop further. The deputies undertook to mediate in establishing contacts between PR and French political parties, in connection with the Republican Party. “Republika” Correspondent

Significant damage to the Serbian air system

NATO CONFIRMS NATO’s Southern Command said yesterday in Naples that the Serbs had suffered “significant damage” on Sunday evening after several explosions “caused by Tomahawk missiles” in northwestern Bosnia. The “Tomahawk” missiles were fired mainly at a command center for the Bosnian Serbs’ anti-aircraft radar system. “The use of ‘Tomahawk’ missiles does not represent an escalation of Operation ‘Deliberate Force’. The cruise missiles were available to NATO’s armament, and, if necessary, they will continue to be used against Serbo-Bosnian targets,” said the operations chief of the Command, according to the ANSA agency. The law on files is a law from which many people will benefit, as in this way they will be freed from politics for good. Those who were collaborators because they were naive and deceived do not benefit, nor do those who truly believed with all their hearts, and continue to believe, in the great ideal... Those who were deceived—that is, those recruited through flattery and not through threats—may continue to engage in politics, since there is no reliable evidence against them showing that they buckle under psychological pressure. In politics, strong will and courage are of the utmost importance. In any case, the law will be applied. If parliament is boycotted, then it is effectively paralyzed. And with a paralyzed parliament, democracy reaches its historical peaks time and again. Especially when the pro-gre[sic]ssive elements are paralyzed. A man who has fixed it in his head that he must stand trial, whereas until recently he thought he should have nothing at all to do with the courts. This ch ange in his attitude toward the judiciary, even though he has more debole[sic] for the executive branch, can be explained by his innate pro-Americanism. Albania should have a majoritarian electoral system, says one person; another calls for a minori-tarian system, which is another kind of extremist position. It is not said for nothing that the extremes meet. The majoritarian and the minoritarian... Figure with the inscription “Tirana”
