Janullatus’s mission is not religious, but political

• Whereas a few months ago we commemorated Noli’s death, on Sunday in Elbasan we celebrated Noli’s resurrection. • To the claims of Janullatos’s supporters, who say they rely on the 1950 Statute, we reply that we recognize no law made in Enver Hoxha’s time. We respect the 1929 Statute, which obliges Janullatos to leave. Page 4

Shefqet Peçi arrested

Shefqet Peci, the former close collaborator of dictator Hoxha, was arrested yesterday on charges of major crimes committed during the Second World War. Shefqet Peci is the first person to be tried by Albanian justice for crimes against [text incomplete in source], unlike the trials to date of former high-ranking Communist nomenklatura, which have been characterized by indescribable triviality. It was the families of the 21 victims, killed without trial by fascism, from Buzë e Madhe in the district of Kukës, who asked the justice system to open criminal proceedings against Sh. Peci. On September 26, 1994, one night after the partisans of the Fifth Brigade, commanded by Shefqet Peçi, had dined with families in the village of Buzë e Madhe, 21 men from this village, “gathered for a meeting,” were executed on Peçi’s orders because of their nationalist positions. The act [a?] committed by Shefqet Peçi is a war crime, provided for under Article 75 of the Penal Code currently in force, and under Article 67 of this code such crimes are not subject to a statute of limitations. October, the month of fairs

Three fairs are being held in Tirana during October. It all began with the agricultural fair and will end with the major fair, from October 24–28, for industrial products. Around 500 different Albanian and foreign companies from every sector of production have participated, and are currently participating, in the fair. As soon as the Agricultural Fair ends, the Construction Fair opens, organized at QNK in Tirana from October 12–17. This is the first fair of its kind. The need to build no longer amateurishly, but according to scientific plans developed by Albanian and foreign institutions studying suburban and urban areas, gave rise to it. Across the three fairs held so far, there have been around 30,000 visitors, and they have featured not only displays of goods and technology, but also wholesale and retail trade. “According to the statistics, the record for fairs is held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, which has organized three fairs and will organize more,” its specialists say. Thus, October has come to be called the month of fairs. B. P.

Telen They say Shefqet Peçi has a lucky touch and will draw other comrades who share his ideals along with him. Peçi’s poem “Komandant na dobi mallin” will be used as evidence in court that Peci is responsible for what he does. They are gathering the fallen leaves to put them into the electoral jackets. When the socialist party comes to power, the first thing it will do is confiscate the goods of capitalist merchants. The people’s courts will reopen, where merchants will account for the millions they have made at the expense of the poor and very poor people. After they are tried, all businesspeople will be put to work digging canals and draining swamps [a?]. Their labor is also expected to increase the production of chromium, copper, nickel-cobalt, etc. The new electoral law will provide for four to five MPs to be elected from each constituency. This is a typically Albanian practice, undertaken to develop democracy under conditions of a harsh capitalist encirclement.
