The fairy tales about Greek visas are a thing of the past
Unscrupulous exploitation of emigration to Greece
Albanian emigrants in Greece, in addition to the hardships and acute problems they face there, are also exploited in Albania by some political force. Such a phenomenon is characteristic of periods when people in Albania are preparing to go to the ballot boxes. Starting with several previous electoral consultations, it has become fashionable to speculate about the status of Albanian refugees in Greece or to make promises of Greek visas. Such a phenomenon is also being observed in the campaign for this year's elections, which will be held at the end of next month. Some political force [Foto] how far it has kept the promises it made in this regard, but in any case, such a way of stealing votes is immoral in two respects. First, with regard to the very notion of free elections. Promises of this kind are equivalent to buying votes, which consequently diverts the elections from their democratic character. Second, such promises also constitute a deception of voters, who
Drugs are killing in Albania too
Establishing a detoxification center is essential
Drugs kill you, but they also turn you into a killer. This is what happened two days ago in Tirana, when a habitual drug user, “killed” by drugs for five years, became a killer. In a state of anxiety and depression caused by the lack of drugs, he became so aggressive that he slaughtered his wife in the presence of his two young children. His tragedy begins precisely at the moment when he could never have imagined it. Like many Albanians, L. G. emigrated to Canada five years ago in search of happiness. In an effort to climb its rungs as quickly as possible, he chose the easiest but also the most dangerous path. He went from being a cocaine dealer; the seductive powder forced him to become a drug user and to do for

Gjinushi challenges Berisha to a “duel”
Leaders of the Pole threaten journalists
Yesterday the leaders of the Center Pole, Skënder Gjinushi and Neritan Ceka, held their second press conference in just a few days since the decisions taken by the “anti-genocide” Commission began to become known.
This conference, too, was held in order to publicly oppose the decisions issued by the Commission for the Verification of Figures. First, they read a press statement in which they accused President Berisha of abusing the vote of confidence he received on 22 March 1992. The people who are in power today, the statement emphasized, have nothing in common with democracy.
To secure victory in the 26 May elections, Berisha has devised a strategy to eliminate all the PD’s opponents. “Berisha can win only by competing against himself,” Gjinushi said.
The statement also objected to the way the Commission for verifying the integrity of candidates for parliament had acted. Social Democratic leader Gjinushi, carrying a large file of documents, sought to argue that he met all the requirements to become a member of the next parliament. Looking back at his own position and that of President Berisha during the events of 1990–1991, Gjinushi sought to prove that he was cleaner than Berisha, or that Berisha was more tainted than he was. In this way, he filled an entire file with a wide range of accusations against the number
30 Albanians arrested
Police intervention was needed to put an end to a brawl at a refugee hotel in the city of Ingelheim, Germany. 150 people were involved in this clash between foreign refugees, which lasted several hours. The protagonists were two groups of refugees, one Turkish and the other Albanian. According to German police, the latter arrested a number of refugees, including 30 Albanians.
Most of them were undocumented, while some others were awaiting repatriation after having received a negative response some time earlier to their applications for refugee status.
After being brought to trial, the arrested Albanians are expected to be repatriated once they have served their sentences on charges of disturbing public order. To date, since July 1990, a considerable number of Albanian refugees in Germany have been repatriated solely because of crimes or offenses they committed there.
Serb refugees in Ulqin
Serb refugees from war zones are being exploited by the Serbian authorities to achieve their political aims.
One of these aims is to alter the ethnic makeup of areas where Albanians live. This is what was done last summer by sending a large number of Serb refugees to Kosovo and providing them with facilities and privileges so they would settle there permanently.
In recent days, a number of Serb refugees are expected to be settled in the ancient coastal city of Ulqin. This has caused extremely great concern among the Albanians of this city. They feel threatened not only by the change in the ethnic makeup, but also by the use of various resources in favor of the Serb refugees. The local authorities of Ulqin
