Socialists unwelcome in America
Godo: I am well-informed that the socialists are not Washington’s guests
Much Ado About Nothing is the new comedy being staged by the Socialist Party. The characters are: the two of them and others; Mejdani and Lakrori. The setting: across the ocean, in the USA, more precisely, Washington.
Why did they go? They say it was to correct the false image Comrade Pellumbi created when he flew to the land of freedom before the May 26 elections. They say Pellumbi distorted the Socialist Party’s image in Washington; they say all sorts of things.
But who invited Mejdani and Lakrori to America? Although the Socialist Party’s newspaper, “Zëri i Popullit,” does not dwell much on the visit—lest it be said that it has buried it in silence—other newspapers are trying to amplify it.
Voices from the Socialist camp say that the USA invited the socialists to thaw the frozen relations between Tirana and Washington. Put more briefly: they went to repair what the Albanian state and President have damaged.
Could it be true? Only the naïve would believe it. The socialists’ trip to Washington as a political visit.
Asked about the socialists’ visit to Washington, Republican leader Sabri Godo commented as follows: “I am absolutely convinced that the socialists were not invited by the political and state institutions of the USA. Even if they were received by Schifter and Schmidt, there is nothing surprising about that. There are two reasons: first, American courtesy. That is, any politician can be received in the USA. Second, the Americans need information about political developments in Albania, including from the Socialist Party camp. According to Godo, the socialists cannot be Washington’s guests to offer their opinion on resolving the crisis, especially now, when Albanian socialists are more concerned with themselves.
The Socialist camp insists on repeating announcements that the socialists are Washington’s trusted representatives and were invited to offer advice on how Albania can become more democratic. Especially now, when the Socialist camp is [unclear: from one stable to another], only the naïve would believe the version spread by the socialists themselves that they were supposedly special invitees to America.

Albanian pedophile arrested in Italy
Yesterday, Italian police arrested 23-year-old Klajdi Cela from Tirana. A whole set of documents was found in his suitcase, implicating him in the crime of child trafficking. Klajdi Cela had previously also been sentenced by the Italian justice system to one year in prison on charges of pedophilia and child trafficking, together with three other Albanians and an Italian. After leaving prison, he had been under surveillance by Italian police for about two consecutive months. According to information available to the police, many minors abducted in Albania came into his “ownership” in Italy, to be distributed through an organized network. Italian sources also say that, in recent days, the flow of illegal migrants had increased considerably. Every day, 40 mini-inflatable boats land on Italy’s shores.
