Mr. President
Stop the violence, Mr. President. Mr. President, clear the minds of the Albanians. Persuade the state to come down to earth and appeal to reason, not violence.
the minds of the appeal to reason, not violence. Perhaps a humane message, without labels, without colors, without rancor, will persuade the Albanians to accept the lesser evil in this great loss they have suffered. They have lost everything they saved, lost everything they sacrificed over these years since the fall of the dictatorship. But for the Albanians to calm down, those who have continued to benefit under the government’s umbrella must confess. The Albanians consider their president an honest man, but even an honest man must confess. After you, every constituent element of the state Pyramid must confess: from the parliament’s doorman all the way to Mr. Pjetër, from the prime minister’s doorman all the way to the prime minister himself. Everyone must be forgiven through confession, including those no longer in power and those who are no longer members of parliament. It is understood that this is not about confessing in church, but in public. The people have made accusations in the squares at their own demonstrations; they are waiting for an answer. The names of many former ministers are still being dragged through the mud to this day. Many senior officials are gossiped about as people of great wealth, with all kinds of gifts; some have received sponsorships and everything else. The people say that where there is smoke there is fire, so you cannot declare everyone in government an angel. Someone must have dipped a finger in the honey. There is a formal law that has not yet been put into effect: the one on asset verification, but strangely this law exists only on paper. Nevertheless, there are ways to verify those implicated in the maelstrom of pyramid schemes and cleanse the government of the filth of corruption.
Mr. President. Albania seems to have slipped off the tracks of Democracy. Beyond the precipice lies the abyss. Keep the nation from slipping. The image of Democracy in Albania has been besmirched; the situation needs to be clarified. Albanians, like a bomb, have survived thanks to tolerance. There is no shortage of [unclear] in these nervous times. There is also a concern disturbing our [unclear]—the North-South divide. Stop the division, because destruction and the ruin of national values will follow. Just as the three religions coexist in tolerance, it is best for all parts of Albania to live in brotherhood. Do not let favoritism in government deepen the division of little Albania into North and South, Gegs and Tosks. “Cursed be whoever stirs up trouble,” says the northern poet.
Mr. President. In Albania, fear of an answer has become a deadlock... Continued on p. 5
