Parliament, this ring of amateur boxers

Yesterday the Albanian Parliament gave the clearest proof that it resembles a ring, where amateur boxers from time to time test the taste of blows. It was the sworn communist Mak[s?] Hasani who tested the strength of the fist of the former chairman of the SHIK commission, Azem Hajdari. The communist, as if given a lesson on how ideas and programs can be defended with fists. The communist was knocked down with the first punch; in the absence of the referee, the other deputies intervened and came to the unfortunate communist's defense. Yesterday, the very apple of discord was the former president himself, the current chairman, the self-proclaimed leader of the opposition Berisha. His appearance at the parliamentary rostrum was met with murmurs from the left-wing deputies. Berisha has always shown himself to be impassive, he continued his speech without batting an eye at the deputies who had come to Parliament from the force of the gangs. Then the quarrel turned back to the origins of the parliamentarians, where each one insulted the other with the nickname... "communist". Here Berisha felt uncomfortable and, despite the intervention of the anti-communist Vejsiu, he was unable to overcome the situation that had arisen. Yesterday Parliament showed that it is not on the right path. The accusations and counter-accusations were far from a real debate that could lead to unlocking the political situation. In the whirlwind of discussion, more or less, it confirmed what the press has warned: this Parliament lacks political orientation. Vague discussions, banal language, quarrels, punches, whistles portray the assembly as a gathering of evil women, quarrelling over nothing at the village fountain. The majority is playing with arrogance, while the opposition with Berisha at the head is moving down a blind alley. The boycott of Parliament in its early days, Berisha's endless absences himself, who in words is against boycott, Petrit's going on a hunger strike to change those laws that are in force by Berisha's and Petrit's own Party, last night's demonstration in the capital square, the call for editors to take to the streets in demonstrations, are nothing other than signals warning of a storm. If Parliament is going to offer us boxing shows like yesterday, all cheek-pulling, whistles, insults, jargon fit for ordinary vagabonds, the political crisis in Albania will keep the fate of Albanians crucified, as they are falling victim to an intra-family political war, a fierce struggle between two groups of former Albanian communists, those aligned on the left and those who have usurped the PD. Albanian citizens would do well to turn their backs on both sides and rid themselves of them once and for all. The alternative of the right must wake up and assume the mission that belongs to it in order to save the nation.

"Republika" apologizes to its readers

The printing house "Demokracia" caused problems for the newspaper "Republika" and cut it off from many of its readers. On Sunday, when the editorial staff had prepared a quality issue with 24 pages, many regions of Albania did not receive the newspaper. Perhaps the fault lay with the editorial staff, which went to the printing house last. It was the first time that, due to a lack of electricity, the issue was delayed and the printing house, which for another newspaper has tolerated delays until after 6:00, did not make an exception for "Republika". Only 8,000 copies were printed for Tirana and 4,000 for the regions. Yesterday, however, "Republika" was missing in all regions, with the exception of Tirana. A defect in the printing house. Almost all newspapers were affected by a reduction, but "Republika" was once again treated like Cinderella. While the newspapers "Albania" and "Shqiptare" had their print runs reduced by 2,000 copies, "RD" was printed in full together with "Bulevard", both receiving 3,500 copies, while "Republika" was given the right to print only 7,000 copies, which is no more than 22 percent of the circulation. We believe there are fairer ways to compete. We do not know how the board made the decision; perhaps next time we will present facts rather than guesses. In any case, the editorial staff apologizes to its readers and hopes for understanding from them and from the printing house.
