The Balkans, at war or at peace?
EDITORIAL By Bertin Haznuku Recently staged events, perfectly orchestrated, have taken on such a form that, although at first glance everything seemed to be attributed to the KLA in Kosovo, we must insist at least once more that these are the true authors of this bloody scenario. Given that everything is being built according to the logic of a personal policy of individuals, even if they have failed in a certain position, it is clear that no one is winning the battle for the country anymore, but only power for themselves. It is clear that everything is being based on improvised scenarios in order to achieve victories that no one wants. At first glance the events may seem unrelated, but in fact they are part of the same scheme. NATO and UNMIK have made a clear request for stability, but the game is continuing in the opposite direction. In such a situation, the population is the one paying the highest price. Montenegro and Serbia are going through a difficult period, while the border with Kosovo remains fragile. What will happen in winter? Everything depends on today’s actions. The economic and social history of Albania is expected to seek clearer solutions.

Albanian cement workers under Lebanese feet
The dismantling plant, victim of corrupt privatization
With the privatization of the cement factory in Fushë-Krujë by the Lebanese company “Seament Holding,” the new owner of the factory has imposed rules in his own favor, without taking into account the interests of the workers or the union. After the dismissal of hundreds of workers, their voice is growing louder and louder, while the factory representatives are accused of violating agreements. The situation is presented as a clear example of failed privatization, which puts public interest in second place. The workers claim they have been left without any protection, while the new managers continue operations without transparency and without respecting their rights. Page 3
