EDITORIAL By Denion NDRENIKA The Mafia has emerged victorious over the sh- [sic] It has told him not to interfere in its affairs... doctors are leaving their posts one after another, and this has become a matter of crime. Such a mentality is not at all to be applauded, but when a prosecutor’s head is worth less than a bag of drugs, then they are right to leave... So they will not be threatened. The state loudly boasts that it has destroyed one or two, or three gangs. Nothing points to that anymore. Because the Mafia does this very well, in an organized manner. The Mafia. It is what forces a prosecutor to leave in fear, under threat. Morality is pointless, because when the man of the law does this, what is left for everyone else? The collapse of the law is as clear as daylight in Albania. No one can live without fear, or at least without tension. Violence took control of the streets long ago; now it reigns in the system. Organized crime is considered powerful. As long as the law surrenders, as long as prosecutors leave, the state is wounded in the body. It does not know how to protect its people, does not know how to safeguard the heads of its law officers. Because it is itself sullied. By the great scale of the [unclear] and trafficking, by the enormous scale of theft, smuggling, corruption. In short, plainly, by Mafia crime. Our state makes a noise. Like the town crier who says only what he is told. Because it has no power of its own. And this is what the state we have does, too. It pleases itself, although everyone can see that it is weak, surrendered, powerless, if not also involved in filth. It has surrendered. The state has fallen. It cannot defend the law; it is useless... The state has turned into a windbag that boasts and says that street crime has declined. Without ever explaining that the real thing is in power. Entirely. The Mafia reigns because the state has surrendered unconditionally.

The “Avdyli” file arrives at the General Prosecutor’s Office Erieta Avdyli’s e-mail correspondence disappears. From November 1999 onward, Erieta communicated with her sister and other friends only by e-mail. In this way, the victim Erieta Avdyli and her sister strengthened their ties and told each other about their lives and various family problems, while e-mail exchanges also took place with people who were not acquaintances of Blera. Up to 27 February, these e-mail messages are regular; after that they have disappeared, only to resume with another message dated 1 April, when Blereta received a message from one of her cousins in America.
