Page 9 Should we believe it for the second time?! This time the official fire on the misdeeds of the officials ends with abuse and wealth sealed by court decision. This has been invented in the media as a shock for Albanians and the government, but it is nothing more than another attempt to calm the irritated people. It was for the umpteenth time that state television aired images of 260 top reports on civil status, wealth abuses and suspicions of millions hidden in banks. They were the faces and names of the persons, years of the appearance of suspicious actions. The list, according to the police and the prosecutor's office, had been prepared by a group of experts specialized in economic crime and money laundering. There was talk of seizures, frozen accounts, arrest warrants and a broad operation against illegal enrichment. In short, it was promised that the oligarchy of the transition would finally be touched. But the same scene has been seen before. Many times names have been shown on screen, strong statements have been made, and people's hopes have been raised that justice is moving. Later, everything has faded into silence. No files, no convictions, no recovery of the staggering sums. Therefore, the question raised today is the same old one: should we believe it again this time? If it is a media spectacle, it will fade away like the others. If it is a serious action, then it must begin with evidence, transparency and a concrete ending. Albanians are tired of sensational news without results. They are waiting not for more names on screen, but for money returned to the state treasury and for the guilty before the court.

After nine months of the socialists and their small allies, the time has come for the public to know what is happening with illegally acquired wealth. What was presented as a crackdown campaign against 27 people with staggering fortunes is not the first time it has appeared as a big promise. At least we saw it once in 1998, when the interior minister of the time and the country's chief prosecutor put on screen lists with names, properties and suspicions over large sums. It was the same false enthusiasm, the same hope that the state would act against the untouchables. But in the end nothing happened. Much was said, the impression was created that there would be seizures, trials and punishments, but the case disappeared without a trace. This makes it difficult for citizens to take today's initiative seriously as well. If we are dealing with a return of the same propaganda scheme, then everything will serve only for public consumption. If, on the contrary, there is a real will to fight economic crime, the public expects swift action, not a television spectacle. Citizens have lost patience with political noise and empty promises. They demand evidence, transparency and results. Only then can one believe again for the second time.
