They sell visas: 22 detained

Suspicion over embassy officials A major operation against passport trafficking TIRANA — Another police operation against trafficking in human beings and false documents has led to the detention of 22 people. According to the report, the network operated with visas, passports and intermediaries for embassies. The operation was centered in Tirana and extended to other points as well. Investigators suspect that embassy officials may also have been involved in the scheme. At the center of the investigation are travel agencies, intermediaries and people who promised to obtain visas in exchange for high payments. Police sources said that during the searches documents, stamps and forms were seized. Some of those detained are suspected of having links to passport forgery and to the illegal sending of citizens abroad. The police said the operation would continue and that further arrests are expected. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the role of each detainee and the flow of money generated by this activity.
