This is a real catastrophe, an unnamed cemetery! The place is only 80 meters from the army checkpoint near the Bekti worksite [?.] The executed were shot with bullets and then some of them were struck with an axe, a hammer and other blunt instruments. This is the chilling testimony given to «Gazeta Shqiptare» by the French anthropologist Patris [Pascal?], assigned by the Tirana Forensic Institute to investigate the crimes of communism.
In a forest, 100-150 meters from the Murrizi pass, near the old road to Dibra, bones of approximately 50-60 people killed between 1945 and 1950 were found. The bodies had been thrown into several pits, but not in an orderly manner. Someone else attempted to cover them with a layer of earth. The searches, carried out in cooperation with the Albanian anthropologist Nazif [?.], lasted about 10 days. Parts of skulls, limb bones, and the remains of children and women were found. From the nails on the rusted shoes and the remains of clothing, the doctors believe that some of the victims were killed with their hands tied. Some remains show evidence of additional injuries after death.
Patris [Pascali?] states that he saw with his own eyes unusual evidence of violence. «We came across a group of skeletons thrown on top of one another, completely unordered. Among them there are bones belonging to young people and some children. There are signs that some bodies had their skulls cut off or were dismembered with blunt instruments».
According to the anthropologist, some of the dead may be from different parts of the country. The names Ceco and Nuredin are mentioned by local witnesses as people linked to the executions. Other testimony also speaks of people killed and brought from Vlora and of missing Cham people. Final conclusions are expected after complete forensic analyses.
