After a year and a half, eight kindergartens have been turned into homes for the homeless
SHKODER (A.T.S) - For a year and a half, 8 children’s kindergartens in the northern city of Shkodër have remained occupied by homeless families. According to local authorities, buildings erected for social services have been used as temporary shelter after unrest and internal population movements. The situation has led to a shortage of places in nurseries and kindergartens and difficulties for parents who want to send their children to preschool institutions. The municipality is seeking an emergency solution, but funds and alternative spaces are insufficient. The temporarily housed residents, on the other hand, are asking for stable housing before they leave the premises.

In some documented scientific assessments, 500 icons stolen in Albania between 1990 and 1998 are listed. Sources from the Institute of Cultural Monuments state that these figures refer only to those cases for which a complaint exists through scientific documentation, while the real number of thefts and the disappearance of icons from places of worship is believed to be higher. According to the same sources, there are also three routes through which these objects disappear, from places of worship and out to foreign markets via the border. According to the iconography specialist Frederik Stamati, the trafficking routes for these artistic values are Vermoshi, Kapshtica and Kakavija. Referring to cases reported to the police, it can be seen that the number of thefts has increased significantly from year to year. In the period 1993-1998, 195 thefts of religious objects were reported to the police. The highest number was in 1998, with 58 cases, while in 1997 there were 50 reported cases. Both of these years were also the least suitable and most favorable periods for the activity of art traffickers. While 20 thefts were carried out during 1994, 11 in 1995, and another 9 cases only in the city of Korçë. The theft and robbery of icons in Albania, according to sources at the Institute of Monuments, have turned into a phenomenon that is becoming a national problem. Some of the icons have been trafficked abroad and are now found in private collections or displayed in foreign galleries and museums. In many cases there is also no possibility of identifying them because of the lack of complete inventories and weak control in places of worship.

ABANDONMENT
Today we are talking about the Albanian government and the political class. Like everyone else, they too need concrete actions and not speeches. If the citizen feels neglected, he turns away from trust in the state and in the future. This abandonment produces more insecurity, less participation, and more social cynicism.
