Threat to Albanian fauna

The financial police issues 238 fines. 14 agencies operating illegally without permits are uncovered. Derviçi from the Forestry Department: If hunting continues for 10 years, it will damage wildlife. Every animal must be recorded. The Albanian Control Commission licensing foreign hunters Threat to Albanian fauna Rare animal furs on the market TIRANA Fatos Baxhaku The Albanian puma is already declining with the hunting season! This means that in recent days the number of sales of furs, hides, trophies and other items of wild-animal origin has increased. In Albania, the legal framework for the licensing of foreign hunters and for the free movement of trophies is still unclear. According to data published yesterday, the financial police has issued 238 fines and discovered 14 agencies operating without permits. Market inspections and controls carried out at various points have shown that furs from rare animals are also being traded. Representatives of the Forestry Directorate stated that every animal must be recorded and that, over a long period, uncontrolled hunting has damaged Albanian fauna. According to specialists, Albania lacks accurate registration of the trophies and skins that leave the country. In the absence of documentation, trophies and furs are sold in different markets, increasing the risk of rare species disappearing. The relevant institutions have called for cooperation between forestry services, the financial police and customs. Meanwhile, sources from the General Forestry Directorate said that the licensing of foreign hunters must be accompanied by stricter controls and full recording of the game killed. If such a system is not created, the damage to Albanian fauna will be irreparable.
