AIDS, the first case discovered
CLAUDIO BOLLINO
Albania — which as of yesterday has officially lost its virginity as far as HIV infection is concerned. The first AIDS victim is a young man from Tirana, almost anonymous, whose name has not been made public for reasons of discretion. The news was made known by sources at the Ministry of Health, according to which the tests carried out confirmed the presence of the virus.
The case, according to the sources, was discovered after routine medical checks. The young man has been kept under observation and the health authorities have begun further checks on his contacts and the likely route of infection.
In medical circles it has been stressed that panic should not be created, but that the case shows the need for greater caution, information and preventive measures. Until now Albania had been considered a country with no confirmed HIV cases, but with this discovery the country enters the map of countries affected by the epidemic.
The article continues with comments on the lack of sexual education, the need for awareness campaigns and the preparation of the health system to deal with similar cases.

HORON — Under the cold night sky, lines of lights like lost stars illuminated the city, while people’s voices mingled with the sounds of distant music. At the center of attention was a strange stage, where names such as Mjella, Laps, Mia, Lui and Shkushin appeared in short columns, each with its own tone and irony.
