TIRANA — The first session held at the Chamber of Commerce to examine the property issue did not produce any final decision. Representatives of the association of former owners asked that people selected by them also be included in the commission. Some MPs and government representatives expressed the view that without the presence of the former owners the review process cannot move forward quickly.
According to the information received, another meeting is expected to take place on 10 September, when the forms of representation will be determined. During the discussions it was said that the issue of the return and compensation of property remains among the most sensitive issues of the Albanian transition. Government representatives stressed the need for the matter to be handled carefully and without creating new social conflicts.
The debate also focused on the way previous ownership records are documented. The association of former owners requested a review of some articles, while it was emphasized that the solution must be legal and acceptable. The discussions will continue at upcoming meetings.

LAP — Some of the best-known leaders of the Islamic world have held contacts with Albanian political circles to discuss the possibility of increasing their influence in our country. Various sources have reported that in this regard, informal movements and meetings are increasing.
Meanwhile, in some areas foreign missionaries have also been seen, and there have been differing reactions regarding their aims. Some see this as part of the country’s opening, while others see it as an attempt to exert political and cultural influence.
Public debate on this issue is expanding. Observers stress that Albania must preserve its religious and national balance and not allow instrumentalization.
