Bulldozers of hostility in the capital, soldiers demolish 17 unauthorized buildings

Tirana / The Municipality launches its major operation Bulldozers of hostility in the capital soldiers demolish 17 unauthorized buildings ENDRIT VLACI TIRANA - Just one anonymous phone call, as if it had warned the municipal police action, caused the residents of various neighborhoods in Tirana to tear down with astonishing speed almost every illegal structure they had put up for much of the night before Saturday. Army vehicles could land at any moment. Panic spread after the news even among other residents, who were determined to wait until morning so that the operation could continue during Saturday. Something like that happened in several places on the outskirts of the city. Elsewhere, right in the middle of the new boulevard "Bajram Curri", in the area known as "Shallvaret". From there, the whole city saw yesterday how the army's bulldozers brought down under their tracks the unauthorized buildings erected over the course of a few months. It has remained like soap, or pulled away; yes, one of the interested parties said, where there had once been a park or a sidewalk. I don't know what is happening with the people in power! Now I know better than the devil himself about the stairs, because he keeps trying and won't leave us in peace. In one corner stood a woman. On her face, battered by hardship, there was not only weakness but also a certain dose of bitterness. Why are they doing this? Please write in the newspaper. I have two children. It has been three months since I have lived on this piece of cardboard. Now they are tearing my house apart. Do you know how hard it is to do something like that? I am on the side of our municipality, but what if this happened in the city palace itself? What do they want to do with me? Better to die! Naturally, as nowhere else in overturned Albania, here too there is a pack of wrongdoers. Such are the two young men who are watching this demolition without saying a word. They have never paid rent. Calmly, one of them says that for months they had occupied the little garden and had piled the bricks one after another. It had never occurred to them that one day the army would come to remove them. No (!) "All these things have begun to be identified by the municipal police figures in the relevant government decisions. This happens in the name of the citizens' interests. If this is not stopped, the city will be drowned. In fact, the occupations have taken on such proportions that in many cases even the apartment blocks have been left without sidewalks, without green areas and without parking spaces. Citizens are rightly outraged. We are doing our duty. The state has not only the obligation, but also the power to act" - said yesterday one of the leaders of the operation, who refused to be identified. The mayor of Tirana, Albert Brojka, expressed himself in the same way. "This is a well-studied operation, in cooperation with the municipal police and army units. Those structures built without permits occupy green areas, sidewalks or the spaces between apartment blocks. This is unacceptable. So far, 130 people who carried out such an act have been identified. They have been warned under article 14 of the Council of Ministers decision, according to which they must voluntarily free the land. Otherwise, the municipal police will intervene there. If necessary, everything will be demolished by order of the prosecutor. This is also being done because no one can behave in this way with the government of a country like this". Many of those affected by the blow had been abandoned the night before by the craftsmen who had put up the walls or molds for them. Apparently Friday evening's phone call had fully taken effect. Although it was easy to understand that army units were ready to act not only yesterday, but also today, some of them thought it was all a spectacle. They removed what they could and pretended not to believe it, waiting for the day to end. Many others preferred to give up without resistance. Two or three families sitting amid the ruins looked completely devastated. "We were renters. We have three children. We had nowhere to go and we built this place just to put our heads in. Now they have thrown us all out. We have nowhere to go" - said one of the heads of household, with tears in his eyes. There were often groups of onlookers watching from a distance and commenting in loud tones. "At last the real police is showing up" - said a pensioner. "A green area or park occupied by them means that we are finally losing the little breathing space we have left. Enough with this anarchy". Yesterday's figures spoke for themselves. In addition to the 17 demolished buildings, municipal services reported that they had been forced to remove about 30 tons of construction materials from sidewalks and road edges. 27 reports and 76 criminal complaints were made. At the very least, these facts speak of great turmoil in the city. It remains difficult to assess the overall climate in this way. A proverb kept circulating among people. "The time of freebies is over."

They are suffocating for the environment "The great Gypsy"

From a voluntary survey of union racism? Ferdinant about a group of researchers on the problems of the Egyptian community in the ecology of Albania "They are suffocating for the environment The great Gypsy" Ferdinant about a group of researchers on the problems of the Egyptian community in the ecology of Albania A strange rule. When you talk with the researchers of a group - called that by their own admirers - about the Egyptian community in Albania, you understand that everything they think revolves around the same word. The great Gypsy. They use this offensive label for the members of this community so often that it cannot fail to make an impression. There was a scandalous incident on a private television station. They were filming a report about an Egyptian family and the first question addressed to its head was utterly shocking: "Are you really a Gypsy?". This naturally reminded me of a bitter study by a French anthropologist, according to whom our country is the most typical case of hidden racial hatred. I do not know how true that is, but it can certainly be said that prejudices exist. A handful of researchers, gathered to analyze the social and ecological position of Egyptians in Albania, have shed some light on an issue that until yesterday had been left in silence. Their reports, presented at a round table, speak of poverty, lack of schooling, scandalous housing conditions and an extremely severe environmental situation. They emphasize that in many cities Egyptian families live near waste, sewage canals and polluted industrial areas. Children grow up without any health protection, while women face extreme unemployment. The problem is not only economic, but also moral: society keeps them at a distance, looks at them with suspicion and often insults them. Representatives of the group propose urgent intervention from local authorities and the government, as well as special education and employment programs. But beyond the statistics and reports, the fact remains that people's everyday language reveals a deeper wound: ordinary racism. Will this round table be enough to change the situation? Nobody knows. But one thing is clear: the way this community is spoken about is itself a mirror of our society.

Property law, the process is concluded

The decision of the Constitutional Court is expected Lipe Shiqiperi TIRANA - (A.S.) - The judicial process requested by the chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group, Sabit Brokaj, regarding the decision of the Constitutional Court concerning the decree of the President of the Republic to return for reconsideration the law "On some additions and amendments to law no. 7698, dated 15.4.1993, 'On the return and compensation of property to former owners'" has been completed. At the final session before the Constitutional Court, the interested parties were heard. In particular, the representative of the President of the Republic stated that his decree was fully in accordance with the Constitution and that the President had exercised his constitutional right to return the law to Parliament for reconsideration. On the other hand, the representatives of Parliament argued that the law had been passed according to the procedures provided and that the presidential intervention should not prevent the relevant provisions from entering into force. The issue, according to them, is of particular importance for thousands of citizens who are waiting for a solution to property problems. The Constitutional Court is expected to issue a final decision soon.

Black spider poisons in Fier

Lipe in Albania Black spider poisons in Fier At least are taken to hospital FIER - (p. rr.) - A strange spider, called ... feared to taste. During the last three weeks in the Fier district, at least ten cases of bites from it have been reported. People of different ages have been admitted to the Fier Hospital, as well as to the Military Hospital in Tirana, most of them residents of rural areas. Doctors say it is a very dangerous species, similar to the so-called "black spider". Its venom causes high fever, severe muscle pain, swelling and in some cases serious complications. Children and the elderly are the most at risk. According to specialists, the insect has appeared especially in cornfields, in humid places and in straw stacks. Villagers have been advised to use gloves and boots while working in the fields and to go immediately to the hospital in case of a bite. Health authorities are closely following the situation and the possibility of disinfections in the most problematic areas has not been ruled out.
