Will the price of electricity rise?
World Bank: "A nerve-racking decision"
The production cost is high; a rise is being proposed
ANDREA STANI
TIRANA — The review of electricity prices has again moved to the center of the government cabinet’s attention. World Bank expert Pierre [?] said that the current price of energy in Albania is very low and does not even cover production costs. According to him, raising the price would be a necessary decision, although a difficult one for consumers.
He stressed that the Albanian energy system continues to suffer major technical and financial losses, while investments to improve the network and production cannot be covered with the current tariffs. In many areas supply remains unreliable and outages are frequent.
Government representatives have said that several options are being studied for a gradual tariff revision, so as to avoid an immediate blow to low-income families. According to official sources, any decision will be accompanied by protective measures for vulnerable groups.
The debate over electricity prices has sparked different reactions, since a possible increase would directly affect household budgets and production costs for enterprises. The World Bank insists that without such reforms the sector cannot emerge from the crisis.

Suspicions over 20,000 dollars taken from the bank
Connection with the Nano case? Doke: "It is an old story"
REDMOND LACI
TIRANA — The PS’s involvement with the funding issue has once again brought its balance sheet into the spotlight. Sources close to the Prosecutor's Office have asked Parliament to verify the party’s financial movements, especially a sum of 20,000 dollars that is suspected to have been taken from a bank.
According to the same sources, the investigation is linked to inconsistencies in the financial declarations and to the way certain revenues and expenses were recorded. The case has sparked political reactions, since the name of Fatos Nano is once again mentioned in public debates.
Doke stated that this is "an old story" and that attempts to bring it back into focus have political motives. He stressed that the PS balance sheet is in order and that the party is ready to provide any explanation requested by the competent authorities.
Meanwhile, parliamentary circles are calling for full transparency regarding the sources of funding for political parties, arguing that only a clear audit can prevent speculation and unnecessary tensions.
A week that shakes the government hotel; renewed alarm at the Bank of Albania
TIRANA — Sources close to the Bank of Albania said that security measures at the institution have been increased after signals of new problems in the fund protection system. The alarm was raised at the beginning of the week and has led to numerous administrative moves.
Bank officials have not given many details, but have stated that internal checks are being carried out and that the possibility of a procedural breach has not been ruled out. At the same time, the government is closely following developments, considering the matter sensitive for financial stability.
Unofficial sources speak of concerns related to the transport and storage of money, while preliminary investigations aim to clarify whether the issue involves technical faults or human responsibility.
The case has sparked many speculations in the capital, but so far there has been no final statement from the competent authorities.
Montenegrins from the ship "Nikos K." sentenced
Charge: illegal border crossing
TIRANA — The court has issued its ruling on several Montenegrin citizens involved in the case of the ship "Nikos K.", finding them guilty of illegal border crossing and other violations of maritime regulations.
According to the investigation file, the ship was stopped after entering Albanian waters without the required permits. The Prosecutor's Office requested exemplary sentences, arguing that the case undermines border security and the legal order.
The defense contested the charges, claiming it was a forced diversion due to bad weather and technical difficulties. Nevertheless, the judicial panel found that the evidence presented was sufficient to convict the defendants.
The ruling is expected to be widely commented on in diplomatic circles as well, because of the involvement of foreign citizens in a sensitive border case.
Italian cooperation "Vegetables in October"
TIRANA — An Italian cooperation project called "Vegetables in October" foresees funding of 218 billion lire for the development of agricultural production and the marketing of products in Albania.
According to the initiators, the program aims to support farmers, improve the collection network, and encourage private investment in the agri-food sector. At the center of the project is the increase in yields and the creation of a more efficient chain from production to market.
The Italian side has said that the funds will be used in phases and will be accompanied by technical assistance, training, and equipment supplies. Albanian authorities have welcomed the project as a concrete opportunity to revive the rural economy.
Implementation is expected to begin this year, while the beneficiary regions will be determined after a detailed assessment of needs.
Today there must be a law against those who abuse housing
DEBATE / New rules for information
Continues on page 11 and residents
ozatë. The violation of residents in buildings is becoming an increasingly acute problem in cities. In the absence of a clear legal framework, conflicts over property, rent, and the use of housing have increased.
Specialists in urban planning and law emphasize that swift action is needed to create new rules that protect both the owner and the user of the housing. According to them, abuse of housing can no longer be treated as a secondary issue.
The debate has also focused on the role of local institutions, which often do not have the necessary means to enforce decisions or prevent conflicts.
Some experts propose creating a special law that would clearly define responsibilities and sanctions for violators.
