TIRANA - (C) - After the prosecutor’s office assigned the case charging former Prime Minister Fatos Nano and the other accused, the prepared case file has also been handed over. The file has been transferred to the registry of the Tirana court and may already be ready for the next hearing. The date of the trial has not yet been announced, but according to reliable sources it may be on Wednesday. Fatos Nano and the other defendants are expected to appear before the court on 13 October. At the registry of the Tirana court the file was entered under no. 4073, on 8 October. In addition to Fatos Nano and the three other arrested defendants, there is a possibility that other defendants may also appear before the court. Recently, the file has also included the newly charged former prime minister removed from office, Vilson Ahmeti, former deputy minister of trade Sokrat Bubullima, and former head of State Reserves Bashkim Aliko. Former Finance Minister Arben Malaj may also be included. The end of the investigations has thus brought the case to its most crucial stage. It is known that opposition MPs have also said they will attend the court sessions to closely follow the progress of the investigation into the Italian aid. The proceedings are expected to arouse interest not only in Albania but also in Italy, since it concerns an aid scandal. FATOS NANO — he is the main defendant for embezzlement through abuse of office in collaboration with others, according to the indictment. Other names mentioned in the file include Bashkim Aliko, Sokrat Bubullima, Vilson Ahmeti, Arben Malaj. The trial is expected to begin soon in Tirana.

President Berisha reconfirms concern for minorities

TIRANA - “Albania did and does a great deal on its own for understanding and good mutual relations with Greece, but the Greek government continues to be irresponsible in the statements it makes.” This is the statement of Albanian President Sali Berisha in an interview he gave to the Greek newspaper “Apogevmatini” on Saturday, on the occasion of his visit to New York.
TIRANA - President of the Republic Sali Berisha confirmed that the new Albanian government has done and is doing a great deal to ensure good relations with neighboring countries and to respect the rights of minorities in Albania. He stressed that concern for minorities remains part of state policy and called for reciprocity from the Greek side.
Road blockage
DURRES — The road blockage caused quite a few traffic problems in the coastal city yesterday and created lines of vehicles. The road police tried to normalize traffic while drivers expressed dissatisfaction with the situation. Some passersby considered the blockage unnecessary and called for a quicker solution.
