Returns dead from exile
This year alone, 112 coffins are arriving
There are 1,500 Albanians who have lost their lives abroad
EDMOND LACI
TIRANË — They announced it and are continuing to die while on the move. Ordinary people, unemployed people, and young people. Others who chose emigration as the only escape. They leave and come back again, but not alive. Dead. This year alone, 112 coffins with Albanians who died abroad have returned to Albania.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports the highest number of deaths among Albanians in Italy and Greece. Then come Yugoslavia and other European countries. According to the latest data from this ministry, during the January–June period, 112 coffins were transported back to the homeland from foreign countries. Making this transport possible requires no small amount of paperwork and expenses. In most cases, families have not been able to cover them, so the state has intervened in some cases.
The return of the lifeless bodies has become more frequent especially from Italy and Greece, where the largest number of Albanian emigrants are also located. In some cases these are workplace accidents, road accidents, drownings, or deaths from other causes. Albanian institutions maintain contacts with the relevant authorities for the identification and return of the bodies.
In many cases, the process is delayed because of missing documents or administrative difficulties. However, according to official sources, the number of cases is increasing and this is a dark indicator of the emigration of recent years.

Explosion, or an invention by the Serbian diplomats? This issue drew in the police in Tirana yesterday and put law enforcement officers into action. In the early hours of the morning, a powerful explosion is said to have occurred in the building of the Yugoslav embassy. According to the diplomatic staff's statement, the explosion was clearly heard and caused panic among those present.
However, some residents of the surrounding area stated that they had not heard any unusual noise. This has increased the doubts and led investigators to explore several leads. The police immediately began checks, while experts are examining whether there really was an explosive device or whether the noise was caused by other factors.
The incident occurred at a time of political tensions and drew the attention of public opinion. So far, there are no complete data on material damage or injuries.

SHKODËR — The still unsolved murder of an elderly woman in Shkodër has placed her grandson, a high school student arrested in Pogradec, at the center of the investigation. Local police sources say the young man is suspected as the perpetrator of the crime, while the motives remain unclear.
According to investigators, the incident occurred under suspicious circumstances and was initially thought to be an ordinary death. Later, the marks found on the victim's body and the evidence gathered steered the investigation toward the murder lead. The suspect's arrest was made after several days of checks and movements between cities.
The police are questioning relatives, neighbors, and other people who may have knowledge of family conflicts or the arrestee's recent movements. The case has caused shock in the local community, as it is a crime within the family.
The investigation continues to clarify the exact role of the detained person and the full circumstances of the घटना.
