«The risk of radioactivity»
The alarm of a confidential report
A warm radiation reveals parts of Albania
ANDREA STANI
TIRANË - The alarm comes
from a confidential decision,
and so does the report. Prepared by a technical team of the Nuclear Technology Agency,[?] this dossier says that in Albania there are areas where the level of radioactivity is at a critical limit. This is shown by examinations carried out recently with special equipment, which reveal an increase in radiation in several parts of the territory.
Shkodra is mentioned in particular, parts of Kukës, as well as areas near Fier and Vlorë. According to the report, in some points values higher than normal have been recorded, although not high enough to cause immediate public alarm. Nevertheless, specialists are calling for continuous monitoring and action to determine the source of the contamination.
The document - which according to official sources has not been made public in order to avoid panic - speaks of the need for more modern equipment, functioning laboratories and a monitoring network throughout the country. The report raises the suspicion that the pollution may be the legacy of industrial deposits, military waste, or the result of the movement of hazardous materials during recent years.
Another concern is the lack of specialists and the fact that control structures are still weak. In some areas villagers continue to use water and agricultural products without having any information about their quality. For this reason, measurements are requested to be extended and to include soil, water, milk and meat.
According to the report, the controls carried out so far have been partial, while the risk map has not been completed. Other sources say the discovery was made thanks to new warm-radiation devices, initially used for technical surveillance and later for environmental measurements.
While awaiting a final confirmation, the authorities are avoiding public statements. But sources close to the experts consider the document serious and are calling on the government to act quickly.
In the current circumstances, when the country suffers from a lack of infrastructure and laboratory control, any sign of radioactive pollution is seen with great concern.

Within a year the law on foreign investments will be approved
Parliament postpones two important interpellations
TIRANË - The two important interpellations scheduled for yesterday's parliamentary session have been postponed to another date. One concerns the draft law on foreign investments, which according to official sources is expected to be approved within a year. The other is linked to economic issues and to the legal reform that is taking time.
The postponement of the debate has sparked reactions in parliamentary circles, because the law on foreign investments is considered essential to attract foreign capital and to create legal certainty for entrepreneurs. Various deputies have stressed that without a clear legal framework, the country will find it difficult to convince investors.
Sources close to the assembly say that the text of the draft is still under review and that final improvements are being made. The coming weeks are expected to bring new discussions and consultations with local and foreign experts.
Several other procedural issues were also dealt with in the session, but the main attention remained on the two postponed interpellations, which are expected to return to the agenda soon.
President Berisha meets the British
