“I know nothing about the aid”

Former ambassador Cardili responds The judges investigating the scandal are on a mission in Italy ROME — (Franco Giuliano) For several hours, the trio of Durres prosecutors was received at the Albanian embassy in Rome by the Italian ambassador in Tirana, Paolo Foresti. He then accompanied them to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the office of the director for the Balkan countries, where they met for a few minutes with former Italian ambassador to Albania, Angelo Cardili. “I know nothing about the aid,” said the Italian ambassador in Tirana. “For that matter, the Rome прокуратура can tell you something.” For this reason, the Albanian judges asked to meet with an Italian prosecutor. But they received a negative answer. In a swift move, the Albanian judges immediately left for Albania. It should not be forgotten, notes a source close to the judiciary, that in Italy, even after the new rules came into force, the judge no longer plays the role of investigator, but that of another body, whose equivalent does not exist in Albania. This may have made the Albanian group’s mission extremely complicated. It was a spokesperson for the Albanian embassy in Italy who gave the news last night about this group’s mission in Rome: “In fact, three Albanian magistrates were in Italy and they were interested in the aid, but we do not know with whom they met.” All three had, during their time in Rome, the translator officially appointed by the embassy, a 22-year-old Albanian man. “They asked me about passages in English and I translated them,” he said. “They told me they were investigating aid issues for the Democratic Party and for the previous government. Up to now they have not asked me about the money Pollo mentioned on television, and I did not even know it was about money.” The agreement with the Italian government for the mission of the Albanian judges was reached after talks held by the President of the Republic himself, Prof. Sali Berisha, with the Italian prime minister Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. In any case, no official announcement has yet been issued by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or by any other authority. At the newsroom of our newspaper yesterday also arrived the text of a denunciation-protest made by the Republican Party, signed by its chairman, Fatmir Mediu. The Republican Party strongly criticized the Durres judges and asked President Sali Berisha to inform the High Council of Justice, so that it may “stop any further illegal action by these prosecutors.” According to the Republican Party, “the trip of the group of prosecutors to Italy to question the ambassador accredited in our country is illegal,” and it is “scandalous and condemnable” to question “a representative of a foreign country, toward which the Albanian state has no accreditation and consequently no jurisdiction.” Former Italian ambassador in Albania Angelo Cardili

The socialist “heroes” were sex champions

Revelations about Mao and Brezhnev LONDON — Under Comrade Mao there was no prostitution, but we imagined it for the revolution; beautiful prostitutes were moved away before he went to any city, while beautiful women and girls waited at the train station to fulfill every sexual wish of the “great leader.” According to a new biography, “Mao Shi, the private life,” hundreds of young Chinese women were served to him, even though he was seventy years old. Such a scandal had nothing whatsoever to do with socialism-Leninism, but on the other hand, Red Army commander Brezhnev was spending his nights surrounded by 17 nurses. Brezhnev, former head of the U.S.S.R., “bragged” about his adventures at the age of 18. According to Mao Zedong, to some extent even the mother of the Chinese revolution had a “flaw.” For example, he slept with women who had had their menstruation and went to mixed saunas, where he walked around naked. All these revelations are found in Jung Chang’s book “Mao, the Secret Life,” which is being published in London and according to which the “great leader” had an endless sexual appetite. “At the age of 80, Mao went out with girls, even 18-year-olds, because he believed that this kept him healthy,” Jung Chang declared. According to the memoirs of his former personal doctor, Li Zhisui, Mao did not even use a toothbrush, but simply rinsed his mouth with tea, used a hot towel to wipe himself after sexual intercourse, and that was all, because according to his beliefs, this was how he could preserve his virility. “Mao went from evening to evening with women,” continued the doctor, “often while traveling on his private train, an entire carriage would be filled with dancers and actresses, who would go one after another into his room.” While his sexual exploits are well known, another nature is revealed in the bureaucratic apparatus of the Soviet Union. Former KGB chief Yuri Andropov hid from Brezhnev the secret police reports about his romantic affairs. “He had a particular weakness for nurses,” said another of Brezhnev’s doctors. “They surrounded him in Crimea, in Moscow, and even in Kiev. Often he took some of them to Zavidovo, an estate reserved for high officials.” Brezhnev liked to stay awake late into the night and often slept with foreign prostitutes. His favorite was an 18-year-old English redhead, code-named “sporto.” Once, when a senior official brought a prostitute to the Kremlin, he said that “if he liked her, he could arrange others.” In the western duchy of Efraim II of H., Brezhnev’s latest manuscripts — “my moment, my documentary” — came to light only some time ago. They describe a trip by the head of the communist party to Washington, where U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger instructed hotel staff to replace the older switchboard operators with young red-haired women with large breasts. He liked such a photograph so much that he always kept it in the pocket of his jacket. Before he died, he told his nurse that he feared he was losing his sexual ability and cried “like a child.”

Soon in Albania, a scientific ecological magazine

TIRANA — (A.C.) The “eagle” itself will be the symbol of this magazine jointly produced by the Albanian and American governments to protect and give special importance to the environment. “Eagle,” a joint magazine between the Albanian and American governments, will be a publication dealing with environmental and ecological issues. According to the magazine’s director, Koli Bleta, this magazine “is a big step in the field of developing Albanian ecological thought and beyond; it is a contribution and a guide for all other environmentalists.” In addition to addressing environmental problems, this magazine will also feature scientific articles, studies, and viewpoints by authors and specialists in the field. “Eagle” will appear every two months and will have a circulation of no less than 5,000 copies, writes the magazine’s director Koli Bleta in the announcement for its publication. The magazine will have 6 sections, in which all environmental issues will be presented. “And although the magazine is specialized, it will not be hermetic and incomprehensible. On the contrary, it will use clear and understandable language,” says Koli Bleta in his announcement.

The cost of the “Dajti” is still being discussed

The investor may change TIRANA — (M. S.) The work we are discussing with the Danish architect who prepared the plan for the completion of Hotel “Dajti” focuses not only on the possibility of obtaining a 4 million dollar loan from the UÇK import-export company, but also on the possibility that if other investments are found, the costs of completing the work may take a different path. In the official preliminary press notice, it is stated that the project for Hotel “Dajti,” with a rethinking of the spaces and the completion of standards for 1,000 guests, including conference halls, etc., costs 7 to 8 million dollars. After the meeting with Mr. Moller, Prime Minister Meksi spoke with the Danish engineer about the need to compare Albanian standards with international ones and to determine the financial volume required to put the hotel into operation as soon as possible. According to the press notice, the government is interested in contacting the investing side with foreign firms that have the necessary capabilities. It is understood that among these authorities is also the firm Beati Arenson, one of the best-known names in Scandinavia in this field.
