Corruption, Gela speaks

All ministries under control Ethem Çiça The State Commission has set aside 500,000 files for analysis since January 1990. The issue of corruption has caused quite a stir recently. The State Commission, in answering the 60 written questions submitted, provides interesting data on the progress of the fight against corruption, on the main areas where it is concentrated, on the Commission's first impressions of its work, and on many other problems. TIRANË — The Minister of Justice, who is also the chairman of the State Commission for the Fight against Corruption, Mr. Gela, in a conversation with Gazeta Shqiptare, said that corruption is widespread and dangerous. According to him, all ministries are under control and measures have been taken to identify abuses. He stressed that there is no sector completely untouched by the phenomenon and that the many files belonging to the period after January 1990 are being carefully analyzed. The State Commission is cooperating with the justice authorities and other state structures to identify those responsible. In the answers given to the written questions, the problems of the administration, customs, finance, the supply system and various public institutions are addressed. Mr. Gela emphasized that every case of abuse of office and unlawful gain will be pursued firmly. Continues on page 3

Very soon, the installation of new fluorescent signs, traffic lights and modern road signage will begin in Tirana. According to the heads of the road police and the municipality, this is a necessary step to bring order to urban traffic, which has long been characterized by chaos. Interventions will be made on major roads, at intersections and in the city's most problematic areas.
