“I came for the Monarchy”

LEKA I PARË speaks: The son of King Zog, who has returned to Albania for the first time after 54 years. Landing at Rinas, not for the new opposition! “A referendum is needed. My father also wanted the people to freely choose the form of government” Who is he TIRANË - A. M. (a.g.) - “Leka Zogu was born in exile because the kingdom of the Albanians ended with the Italian occupation.” That is how our first article about the Prince of the Albanians begins, who set foot for the first time on the eternal land of his ancestors. If age prevented King Zog from returning to his homeland, his son had to wait a full 54 years to fulfill the testament that Queen Geraldine preserved together with the icon of his birthplace. It is an arrival announced as private, but followed with political interest, not only on an emotional level, by Albanians and foreigners alike. At Rinas airport, where he landed yesterday on a scheduled flight, Leka Zogu was welcomed by many people, curious onlookers and sympathizers. Fatigue from the journey was visible on his face, but also restrained emotion. He spoke to the media and emphasized that his arrival had nothing to do with creating a new opposition, but with the idea that the Albanian people should freely express themselves about the form of the state. According to him, Albania should move toward a referendum in which citizens themselves choose between republic and monarchy. He recalled that his father, King Zog, also wanted the people to decide freely. Leka said he had not come for personal power, but to contribute to the country's stability and to restore a state-forming tradition that, according to his supporters, had been unjustly interrupted. He said he feels linked to Albania not only because of his family heritage, but because the country needs reconciliation, order and a perspective. In his first conversations with journalists, he was cautious in his assessments, but firm in his demand for a popular consultation. Continued on page 5

“Repeated” Albania does not seek revenge

“Repeated” Albania does not seek revenge TIRANË - S. G. (b.d.) - No revenge, the Albanian president Sali Berisha likes to repeat. Reiterating once again the thesis that those responsible for the crimes of the past should not be prosecuted, the president said that Albania cannot follow the example of the former communist East, but only that of Italy. According to Berisha, a civil war began in our country in 1944 because the population was deeply divided. If we were now to proceed with belated purges, Albania would be driven into chaos. Crimes committed 30-40 years ago and those of today cannot be judged by the same standards. In Albania, the period of terror has still not ended. That is how BERISHA compared our situation with the Italian one, where the cleansing of the figures of the dictatorship and the dark pages of fascism took place immediately after the Second World War. The president added that the life of our country is still infected by various kinds of crimes, but especially by some institutionalized forms of crime, such as religious persecutions, violations of human rights and freedom, and crimes committed in the name of ideology. For this reason Berisha has spoken out against the criminal punishment of his predecessors, calling instead for an uncompromising fight against corruption and the application of democratic laws, so that no one in the future has the chance to engage in arbitrariness and abuses that violate citizens' freedoms.

The bread scandal: 5 sentences handed down. Who were the culprits?

The bread scandal 5 sentences handed down Who were the culprits? EMOND IAKÇI its power? The event itself, in essence, once again includes the factors behind the disintegration of the system and the state. There were many culprits: from negligence within the structures, the incompetence of the leaders, the lack of control, all the way to those who, through their actions or inaction, made the tragedy possible. But now, months later, the question arises again: are five sentences enough? Or are we dealing with the sacrifice of a few links, while the biggest المسؤولs remain untouched? Public opinion needs a fuller explanation, because only real punishment can restore trust in law and the state.

The Catholic Church regains its spirit

The Catholic Church regains its spirit On Sunday morning the doors of the church of Shna Ndout in Laç were opened, where a pope was present for the first time TIRANË - From a symbolic point of view, this day's event has great significance for Albanian Catholics. The Church, which for decades had been kept closed or restricted in its activity, is returning to public life and to people's souls. The ceremony held in Laç attracted many believers and was seen as a clear sign of the revival of religious faith. At the center of attention was the pope's presence, which was a historic moment for the country. Believers, coming from different areas, took part in the mass with emotion and devotion. For many of them, this day marked the end of a time of silence and deprivation and the beginning of a new stage for the Catholic community in Albania.

Like our dukat, joy is spread by a panorama

Like our dukat joy is spread by a panorama TIRANË - In the city’s surroundings, the usual scenes of daily life are taking on a different meaning under the influence of the recent changes. The movement of people, conversations in cafés and the anticipation of new events create a panorama that for many seems like a sign of a new opening. There is still uncertainty and shortages, but hope seems more visible than before.

A new problem for emigrants

TIRANË - Another concern has been added to Albanian emigrants, who face not only economic and employment difficulties, but also legal and administrative uncertainty. Many families that rely on money sent from abroad are feeling the consequences of these obstacles, while the authorities have still not provided a complete solution. The issue is expected to have broad social and economic impact.
