The Parliament is being computerized
One million dollars for computerization
There will be boards and electronic voting systems
TIRANA — (A. M. S.) — Orders have been issued for four ministries to begin procuring imported and domestic goods within the framework of the Allocation Commission of the People's Assembly for the “Parliament” project. These goods will be used for completing and for some of the fittings [?] made necessary for security and control, as well as for the development of productive activities and services. In a number of service offices of the Parliament, arrangements, equipment and the use of computers and electronic voting systems are being considered.
According to administration sources, most of the funds will be used to purchase computer equipment, install the network and accompanying software. In this context, the installation of electronic boards and systems for recording deputies’ votes is also mentioned. Various officials have stated that these investments will amount to approximately one million dollars.
The purpose of this modernization is presented as increasing administrative efficiency, improving internal communication and creating the conditions for a more organized plenary session. However, public opinion has also included critical reactions regarding the high cost in the country’s difficult economic circumstances.
Parliament officials emphasize that the installations will be carried out in phases and that some of the equipment is expected to arrive from imports. The spaces where the equipment will be placed and the staff who will be trained to use it are also being examined.

Yesterday, around 12:45, a young man entered the agency, thought to be 20–25 years old, dressed in sportswear, and after pulling out a pistol forced the employees to hand over the foreign currency. According to initial reports, the perpetrator took a considerable sum in foreign currency and fled quickly.
The incident took place in one of the most frequented areas of the capital and caused immediate alarm. Police forces arrived at the scene right away, took the first statements and began searching the area. The agency employees said the robber spoke little and moved nervously, leading investigators to believe he may have had accomplices.
Police are investigating possible escape routes and are checking persons with prior convictions for theft and armed robbery. By evening, the identity of the perpetrator had not been disclosed.

Legal producers and distributors complain that counterfeit audio cassettes are being sold everywhere at much lower prices, stealing customers and driving them toward bankruptcy. According to them, the lack of state control and punitive measures has created a favorable environment for counterfeiters.
