Greek leaflets over the Riviera

Diplomatic tensions worsen. Athens: «It was the fault of a pilot» Pirate plane drops anti-Albanian leaflets Diplomatic tensions worsen. Athens: «It was the fault of a pilot» Greek leaflets over the Riviera Pirate plane drops anti-Albanian leaflets TIRANE — Greek retaliation flares up again, against the trial under way against 5 Albanian citizens from the minority. But this time — on the part of the Greek authorities — not only have the “weapons” been used, but also the forms of the anti-Albanian “attack” that have come not only from the land border but also by sea and air. On the morning of 21 August — at 06:07 — a Greek plane taking off from Corfu, after violating the airspace of the Republic of Albania, dropped leaflets deep in the southern region of the country. They were armed with Greek propaganda and, according to a protest note from the Albanian Government addressed to the Greek Government, they also contained calls to overthrow the order in Albania. And it was also the statement of the Albanian Government that described this act as an “absurd anti-democratic provocation against freedom of the press and its sovereignty, an action that is in open contradiction with the most elementary norms of international rules among sovereign states, with the UN Charter, the Helsinki principles and other international documents”. And as has so often happened recently, the fumes of the diplomatic tension between the two states once again set into motion the infamous “television”. But this time it seems to have started and to have erupted together with a substantial contingent of emigrants — for the even greater work of putting them in order and discriminating against them in favor of Greek employers — subjected to a truly undeserved outrage. Among thousands of Albanian emigrants, economic and spiritual, returned and violently pushed back from the Albanian customs frontier — now brought not only by land routes but also by sea — alongside hundreds of other people humiliated, abused and robbed, have arrived the body of a 24-year-old young man as well as the paralyzed body of another. They are all victims of political conflicts, entirely independent of and unwanted by them. And our welcome to them, to hundreds of thousands of emigrants, they are paying for with their lives and with a very costly sacrifice the tensions — so frequent in recent years — in relations between the two border states of the “volcanic” peninsula. «Omonia» trial: Asfalia promised help to the union

TIRANE — The unions have risen again. It happened on Sunday, the day of the final protest before the trial of "Omonia". After that, what until yesterday had been only a suspicion has taken the form of a rather intriguing fact: intervention by the Greek Asfalia to help the trade-union movement in Albania. It was the witness Eva Bllac[?] who stated before the court that Kallaj — during his visit to Greece in 1992 — met Andrea Zarbakulla, the head of the secret services of Ioannina. And it seems that this was no coincidence. Following the meeting, and speaking out — not after Bllac[?]'s testimony — Kalaja said that he had “arranged a support contract for the union”. Everything is written there, confirming the matter set out two days earlier by the defendant Kosta Qirja. “I met Gezim Kalaja in Ioannina, whom I did not know — Qirjako had stated before the court — but he came with my acquaintance Eqrem Paja. Gëzim wanted to be introduced to some personality in Ioannina,” Qirjako continued. “I phoned the chairman of the Ioannina district council, who was not there. Then I took Gezim Kalaja to Andrea Zarbakullas, who took charge of the meeting.” And it was the witness Bllac[?] who not only confirmed the “Union — Asfalia” meeting but also stated something about its result, a “support contract” for the union. But there is still much to learn. The nature of this contract and the help it promised remain unverified. It is also not known whether — despite the agreement — the contract actually came into effect and, if so, to what extent it was implemented. And again, if this still mysterious document[?] exists — so far the testimonies have spoken in favor of this version — what obligations does the Albanian party bound by it have. In Gjirokastër: combine harvester kills a 13-year-old

He fell among the blades GJIROKASTER — A 13-year-old has fallen victim to the harvest. The location of the tragedy — terrible and unexpected — is the village of Derviçan in the district of Gjirokastër. A combine harvester driven by his father made the dreadful machine that killed his son. The two had worked together all day, the farmer and his son, in the cab of their new combine harvester — bought with great effort — harvesting alfalfa. And at dusk, when the work was almost over, the tragedy occurred. The boy fell from the cab straight into the rotating blades. People nearby managed only to cut his hand, but — as doctors later found — it was a blow to the head that caused his death. And neither the pulling out by which his father stopped the combine harvester engine, nor the speed with which the bloodied boy was taken to the hospital in Gjirokastër, was enough. The wounds caused his death before he arrived there. Ra. Ko.

Summer adventure: garbage truck bursts into flames

From carelessness TIRANE — Garbage has once again shown how dangerous it can be, but this time in a completely unusual way. In Kcristen I was in a truck? with cleaning? there was the driver? and its driver. After loading the waste as usual, he set off to dump it by the river on the outskirts of the city. But along the way — near the "Kombinat" — flames broke out in the truck bed filled with waste. And it was the cries of passers-by, surprised by the fiery rush and the billowing smoke, that made the driver understand the danger that threatened him. In any case, what caused the waste to ignite was seen, or perhaps some bottle of fire[?] thrown into the truck[?] after? time? he? together with them by the loading workers. Meanwhile it was only the pumps of the fire engines — which arrived quickly at the scene — that saved the truck from burning or from a possible explosion. (r.p.)

Sarajevo, the Vatican will consult the UN

Pope’s visit to Bosnia ROME — The Vatican continues preparations for John Paul II’s visit to Sarajevo, but is also awaiting a new “opinion” from the United Nations. ROME — The Vatican continues preparations for John Paul II’s visit to Sarajevo, but is also awaiting a new “opinion” from the United Nations, as a result of the outbreak of war and the worsening of the situation. The Vatican announced today that after meeting with representatives of Bosnia, Karadžić, which made it clear that the visit would take place, it will also consult the UN. “Here in Val D'Aosta — said Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro Valls to journalists — the Pope is studying the situation and has not yet given it up. His visit to Sarajevo is in favor of peace.” As for the trip to Sarajevo, of course everything is being considered, according to the Holy Father’s wishes — just as other relevant elements are being taken into account in monitoring the situation. But it is clear that the Holy See will assess together with the United Nations the possibility of carrying out the Pope’s trip, under the same conditions where it is? above? complete. Even though the organization of any? trip continues, the final decision will apparently be taken later, certainly after the request with prayer? and from Unprofor, only a little before departure.
