An Albanian woman is shot and wounded by Greek forces

A new incident between neighbors Greek-Albanian border RAKAVIJE — Greek police fired at an Albanian woman, hitting her in the head, near the Greek-Albanian border. This is confirmed by a witness from the Greek police, who says that the woman was in a car and did not stop at a checkpoint. The woman was seriously injured and her husband was arrested. Two or three other men abandoned the car and fled on foot toward the inaccessible Albanian areas of the border between Greece and Albania, according to the Greek spokesperson in Ioannina. The spokesperson says that the car was stopped for a police check, but that one of the passengers began to shoot. According to the source, the police responded by wounding the woman. In recent days, tensions, normally high along the border between the two countries, have escalated. Athens has accused Albanian soldiers of crossing the border on Thursday and wounding a Greek soldier. Tirana has accused Greek soldiers. Greece accuses Albania of recruiting the Greek minority living in the south of the country. Tirana replied by accusing Athens of encouraging separatism. On Saturday the Albanian Foreign Ministry handed the representative of the Greek Embassy a protest note over this episode, considering it a clear threat to territorial integrity.

Will the Gradeci trial be reviewed?

The lawyer is absent At the Military Court TIRANE — The start of the trial of Sulo Gradeci — former commander of dictator Hoxha’s escort group — is at risk of being reviewed once again; his hearing was scheduled to begin this week. This is because his lawyer, Pëparim Shanku, has still not returned from his trip to Switzerland. In any case, everything will be decided by the chairwoman of the trial panel, Fatmira Laska. A week ago — while preparations were again underway — it had been decided that the case against Gradeci would be heard by the Military Court, and not, as previously planned, in the chambers of the civil judge, Ilgi Toska. Arrested for more than two years now, Gradeci is facing charges of "abuse of office" and "appropriation of state property", which refer precisely to the time when he was the dictator Hoxha’s most loyal and closest man. Hoxha’s "right hand" is said to have written, over 30 consecutive years, more than 300 pages of memoirs about this life spent together; and other episodes written to confront the accusations of Albanian justice. Drowned at sea

He was about 60 years old In Vlorë, a body is discovered on the beach VLORE — "He seemed to move farther and farther from the shore and we ran to help him." These are a group of children — accidental witnesses to the drowning of a 60-year-old man at Uji i Ftohtë — recounting those tragic moments. But their attempt to help was unsuccessful. And now the coastal police — which immediately went to the scene — must determine the identity of the corpse and the cause of death. For the latter, the first hypothesis has been put forward: although the victim had no signs of drowning, the cause of death is suspected to have been a sudden heart attack. Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased has still not been established. His clothes and shoes — found not far away — offer no clues. The Vlorë police station is convinced that the victim has no family in that district and that no requests have come in from other police stations. And there is one distinguishing mark that offers hope for identification. On the corpse’s right foot, experts found a mark, a thick burn or the consequence of some old operation. S. M

16 quintals of bad flour are seized

— Flour causes alarm again. But this time the reason is not the presence of lead in it — which in some districts had sent dozens of people to the hospital — but the opposite. The hygiene specialists in Elbasan — who regularly inspect food products — have classified as unfit for human consumption a quantity of 16 quintals of wheat flour ground in a village mill — when ground — for use — the wheat had yielded a flour of poor quality and a high percentage of bran. The possibility of using this quantity of flour for animals is now being discussed. Me. Ki.

The young man “falls in love” with a 70-year-old woman: ends up in prison

Elbasan, a monstrous crime ELBASAN — Even old age is a victim of rape. In the village of Katund i Ri, a 70-year-old woman fell victim to the violent "love" of a 21-year-old. It was late evening when the old woman — in her garden — was attacked by a person who, after tying her up, committed the vile act. While the victim is hospitalized as a result of serious physical injuries, the police managed to identify and arrest the perpetrator of the crime. Although the investigation has not ended, the first witnesses say that the suspect — an alcoholic like the violent 21-year-old — is a young man from the city. Originally from the village of Shmil, he had been living in Katund i Ri for two weeks, where he carried out the horrifying act. Two years ago, in this district, almost the same crime took place, shocking public opinion. But back then, the victim of the rape was a 7-year-old girl. Me. Ki.

Gunshots for Brazil’s goals

SHKODER — For five times in a row, gunshots in Shkodër have gone hand in hand with the goals of Brazil’s footballers at "USA '94". Thus the old Brazil, once mentioned with weapons in hand only in the case of great family celebrations, is now associated with the goals and victories of the Latin American team. This was even more pronounced after the 3-2 victory over the Netherlands, when the whole city echoed with gunfire and even knife-wielding celebrants. After the match — until the end of the hour — the city’s main streets were full of celebrations. Truly festive scenes from Shkodër’s Brazil fans, turning its square into a small Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, the authorities have confirmed no incidents. (p.re.)

Berlusconi: «Bosnia is a risk for Albania»

Naples, first balance sheet of the G7 meeting: «Russia’s entry» NAPLES — From the G7 meeting in Bosnia, passing by Albania, the Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, in his closing remarks at the high-level summit of the seven most industrialized countries in the world, did not fail to mention Albania as well. Speaking at the start, he explained, in an overview of important political developments, especially the Russian crisis, stating that "in Naples conscience gathers and decides, because everyone, to a very great extent, feels responsible for this country’s future." After him, the president of the European Commission, Delors, focusing on economic reforms and Russian political plans, stated that "if the process is not verified by the parties in conflict, an immediate flare-up of the conflict may be caused, with risks also for other countries such as Macedonia and Albania". Sicily made a very forceful statement that the peace plan must be accepted and respected, commenting: "when force is spoken of, it is understood and it is convincing". The presentation of the cautious position of the most powerful countries in general regarding Russia, in a step of rebalancing toward the changing stability of Europe and peace, added to the recent political agenda of the G7 high-level meeting in Naples. Among the future items of shared support on urgent political issues — Bosnia, but also Algeria and Rwanda — Japan’s lower house does not have the importance deserving attention, therefore 07 [?]. YESTERDAY IN ALBANIA

IN POGRADEC, STRIKE BY THE WORKERS OF THE COMPANY "ADELIN" — Two weeks are now coming to an end since the workers of the joint clothing company "Adelin" went on strike. The cause was the "failure of the company’s management to respect the labor contract and Decision 623 of the Council of Ministers on workers’ compensation." The workers also complain about the damage to some work and the non-payment by the company management of social insurance for 8 consecutive months. RUBIK, POLLUTION AND DUST OVERWHELM THE ENVIRONMENT — The city of Rubik continues to be among the "refuges" of filth and heavy pollution. Scattered heaps of earth and waste remain everywhere on the cobblestones and occupy parts of the streets. This situation has outlived itself and has become unbearable. SLOVENIA — Albanian Foreign Minister Sereqi has departed for Slovenia. His visit — to discuss relations between the two countries — is taking place at the invitation of the Slovenian Foreign Minister Peterle.

YESTERDAY IN THE WORLD

GREAT BRITAIN: DIANA, LAY IN THE AMERICAN MAGAZINE "PENTHOUSE"? NO, IT IS ONLY A DOUBLES OF HER — The British and royal magazine said that it shows her in high-heeled shoes, with a diadem on her head. Thus appears a figure stretched out on a bed, found in a black set, whose face resembled a princess of the world? and a pose like a "Penthouse". The face is "that of Princess Diana, but in reality it is only a double". GERMANY-USA: CLINTON EXPECTED IN BONN AND BERLIN — A major player in diplomacy has announced with public anticipation Bill Clinton in Bonn and Berlin for the 4-day visit of the American president to Germany after the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Wall. The future role of the US in world politics, where an important international settlement was made in the governance of a wing like that of a bloc. Clinton is mentioned in particular for the interest in the new common field where Germany is now governing and cannot risk carrying out a role as a leading actor on the world political stage.
