Heat, rushing to the beach
Only in Durrës, 100,000 holidaymakers
Last weekend: a huge rush to tourist spots
Jet skis are banned...
SARANDE — Strict measures in Sarandë against uncontrolled movement of jet skis at sea. Under a special decree by the city municipality, the anchoring places for private jet skis are now specified, as are their operating hours — from 8.00 to 20.00 movement is prohibited — and the powers the police have to carry out checks. It has also been decided that jet skis must not remain closer than 100 metres from the seashore. If these rules are not observed, the municipality has also предусмотрed a series of fines reaching up to 50,000 lek.
... but not cars
DURRES — The beach of Durrës continues to remain an over-polished motorway for drivers. Cars of various kinds have found on this coast a track where they can try out all possible stunts — speed, brakes, sharp turns — or even spectacular games that are on everyone's lips. The use of this "road" by holidaymakers coming from different cities is considered unbelievable and does not surprise them at all. The whole city feels this mix caused by cars. Weeks ago, a little boy from Berat lost his life because of the absurd "game" of cars.
TIRANE — On Sunday most of the main Albanian cities look completely quiet. Fewer inhabitants than ever. The reason for this decrease: on the weekends that have passed, a record number of holidaymakers was registered on Albanian beaches. Real rivers of cars flooded on Saturday and Sunday the roads leading to the coastal beaches. A large number of people also travelled by special trains from holiday and excursion centres during the hot season.
At the country's largest beach, in Durrës, the biggest concentration of beachgoers was recorded. According to data reported by the city’s residents, there were more than 100,000 holidaymakers who chose the famous beach on the Adriatic, a number that comes close to the population of Durrës itself. From the Currila area — a holiday spot mainly for people from Durrës — all the way to Golem, the human cordon completely filled the coastal strip for dozens of kilometres. The increase in the number of domestic tourists once again proves that Albanians, unlike last year, have now begun to give a different life to this "profitable" field: domestic tourism, a result of the fact that now more cars are circulating in the country, but fewer places. These with much money. Meanwhile, from Shëngjin comes a concern: toxic waste has been dumped from ships, becoming in many cases a source of infection. An alarm that has emerged not in parallel with the end of the week. The faint withdrawal of care for the environment is increasingly being seen in coastal cities. "Touristically developed Albania" could become a reality. (p. re.)

Canals slow down accidents
SHKODER — An original way to "discipline" vehicle speed along the Lezhë-Shkodër national road. According to official information sources, the reaction of residents of the area on both sides of this road to the many accidents that have occurred has been accompanied — in more than ten cases — by the opening of small canals that cut across the side road. This forced reduction in speed near inhabited areas is also said on the other hand to be one of the causes of accidents. Meanwhile, these actions have also raised various reactions and concerns, among those who do not consider such a measure the best way to solve the legitimate worries of residents. (p.re.)
A 36-year-old dies under the wheels of a locomotive
Still a mystery
KAVAJE — The death of their fellow townsman, the 36-year-old Rifat Myslim Duka, who on Sunday was found crushed, still remains a mystery for the citizens of Kavajë. Some shepherds found the victim's body crushed, precisely on the railway tracks and about 10 metres from his home. Another curious fact is that the victim — although he lived near the railway line — had no reason at all to go to his house. According to some witnesses, Rifat Myslia had been in a bar near his house on Saturday evening, but by dawn he was gone. It is also not known which of the trains that passed that night along the Kavajë station may have caused Myslia's terrible death. The investigators have especially begun to work immediately to uncover the mystery of this death on the tracks. (p.re.)
Now prison too for those who steal water and electricity
Special decree by the President
TIRANE — It will become harder for anyone who until now has illegally benefited from water, electricity, telephone impulses or irrigation-channel water. A decree by President Sali Berisha provides harsher penalties for those caught committing these offences. The change envisaged by Berisha provides strict punishments, depending on the degree of guilt, from heavy fines — up to 1 million lek — to imprisonment of up to three years.
This decree comes at a time when local authorities and the enterprises responsible for managing these services complain that their regular functioning is first and foremost undermined by arbitrary interventions in the water and power lines. Just a few days earlier, in an interview given on Televizioni M1, minister Ndërti[r?] Mustafaj had stressed that it should be improved in Tiranë. Sources supply the city with a quantity of water capable of supporting a population of one million, but it is lost through improper interventions. "
Dry Durrës
DURRES — Durrës has now also been gripped by the terror of water shortages. For the past two weeks not a single drop has reached the upper floors of some blocks in District 6 of this city. Their residents — a familiar scene of recent years — carry water in buckets to the lower floors. Difficulties have also arisen in other parts of the city. The situation has worsened further because, alongside damage to the city network, abuses by various individuals have also been put into use.
"Ekspo-Tirana" closes
Applause but... far too hot
Today the final shows and fashion parades
Between the fashion show and the music, the "Ekspo-Tirana" fair also ended yesterday evening after five days of work. The interest shown by the Albanian public confirms the need to keep carrying out initiatives of this kind. A broad interest from the staff and attention was being given to the domestic and foreign exhibition. Meanwhile, the culture bars dreamed of a form of presentation and developed quality, and an unbearable heat made the work sufficiently and often feasible.
For the experience of who produces? to the climate, "ExpoTirana" confirmed the need for the initiative. Its interest is boundless and is especially organized for the preparation of the fair. The unbearable heat — present throughout the whole time — not only did not prevent the public from entering despite the difficulties, but also made the number of people who entered the fair even larger. Nevertheless, parts of the exhibition will be presented separately in the coming days with other initiatives. This was excessive and the great heat was truly necessary.

BERAT, AN ENTIRE ILLEGAL NEIGHBOURHOOD — The case of an entire neighbourhood built without a permit, next to an illegal line carried out by impatient citizens, has not escaped the attention of the city leaders. In this neighbourhood, which bears the name of the inhabitants of one family, the raised problem has led to a broad consideration of the other constructions scattered throughout the city. Those responsible for these constructions will be punished with a very large fine not only because of their very large number but also because the city authorities, the Municipality and the regular Council of Tiranë! punished because it did not register the joint project, bringing the road to an end[?].
TROPOJE, PROFITABLE PRIVATE-FIRM EQUIPMENT — The head of the Tax and Duties Branch of the Këlcyrë Municipality has denounced the illegal launch of many private entities. According to the chairman, many private firms now carry out irregular gains without declaring them in tax records and can not only abuse these actions but also their activity in daily work. In fact, the phenomenon has long been denounced by the tax authorities, raising concern not only about registration but also that the business is not complying with taxation.
