Greek man with drugs

Police operation in Tirana and Durrës Detained: he had 300 grams TIRANA — Another quantity of drugs has been seized in Albania, this time in the center of the capital. As part of the anti-drug operation of Police Station 1, a foreign national has also fallen into the net and must now answer — not only for the considerable amount of narcotic substance — but also for illegal possession of weapons. He is Kostandinos Agapitas Kalofetas — a trader by profession and who came to Tirana back in 1991 — the Greek citizen who, after being detained, is under house arrest, unable to leave Tirana. After this, the Prosecutor’s Office has also opened criminal proceedings, while the investigation has now been expanded to verify further details about this episode. The first suspicion of the specialists about the Greek citizen Kalofetas came precisely from illegal possession of a weapon and a few moments later — through a surprise search in neighborhood II, on “Beqir Lluga” Street — the suspicious substance was also found. According to the first confirmations, it is a quantity of around 300 grams, which has been analyzed and the special narcotic substance turned out to be a narcotic drug. The seizure occurred because of the course of the investigation — it has not yet been confirmed what drug it is specifically. Only a few days earlier — but in Durrës — the Public Order authorities had managed to discover and arrest another group of three people, in whose car about 500 grams of heroin were found. This quantity — apparently circulated in Albania — is now at the center of the Prosecutor’s Office investigation, which has also ordered the arrest of the persons responsible. Meanwhile, also in the Durrës area, on many farmers’ plots, plantings of narcotic plants — mostly cannabis — had been verified even last week, the owners of which have also been subjected to a competent investigation. Now, although pursued forcefully, the authorities’ view is that drugs have practically stopped the Albanian market. (L.) A street in Tirana

A tribute to Albania

A debt that must be paid ANTONIO SPINOSA We owe a debt to the Albanians. Not only because recently we have received, with them, that incredible ability to survive through so many battles over the past thirty years. Since landing on the Apulian coast. Not only because of the “aid scandal”; the so-called humanitarian aid handed out so carelessly by De Michelis when he was foreign minister, but also because, in a much earlier time, we attacked them. In mid-March of '39 Nazi troops had entered the Italian border area and in early April landed in Albania, so as not to fall below the Germans; as Ciano said, who was also the inspirer of this attack. A few days ago I was in Tirana with the appointed administrator Giorgio [?] and several technicians from the newspaper, sent by Editor-in-chief Bollino, to study the possibility of printing “Gazeta Shqiptare” directly in the Albanian capital (which has now been in existence for a year) and to establish relations with the crossing from Otranto. As I went through the city streets, from one visit to another in printing shops, I could not get out of my mind the wildest moments of the aggression we committed fifty-five years ago. Not all Italians agreed with that warlike act, so much so that a battalion of bersaglieri — representing the whole of the immortal riflemen — marched through Bari to celebrate their 158th anniversary — they had gathered in Bologna to say: “We want peace, we do not want war.” From the news Mussolini was furious, he had reduced the bersaglieri to corporals. The landing took place in Durrës at dawn on 7 April. It was a Friday. Two days earlier Geraldina, the wife of King Zog, had given birth to a boy. The Italian soldiers advanced without encountering major obstacles. The land had not been sown, and the bunkers, which were unused, likely would not have been able to repel an attack anyway. The king had fled accompanied by Ehver Hoxha [?] who had ordered that, in defending the country from aggression, more than in creating in the people a state of fear of the capitalists and therefore of a necessary submission to the power of the Duce. Ciano, through the streets of Durrës, encountered few people, but said that resistance should have been there; he noticed bersaglieri squads hidden behind the large port rubble and discovered that on a hill there was a gun to command the city, while from the eastern hill another gun was seen. Then, when he found himself in Tirana — and his account is marked by notes of “we cannot fail to endure with people who had ‘zone,’ I told them, censorship among the students. He said that they are much more indifferent, in order to persecute in the Italian way”, even “some who openly refused to do it, their own comrades pushed them.” The world did not react to the aggression. England declared that it had nothing whatsoever to do with Albania; even Chamberlain had informed Mussolini that he would be forced to examine it, before the House of Commons did, but that he would do so only for internal political reasons. So, with Albania, the policy of the great democracy continued with the sidelining that favored Mussolini and Hitler in their aggressions, considering them useful warnings against the expansion of Bolshevism in Europe. For an Italian who has studied history, after visiting Albania, and the Albania of today’s years, it has given me the impression that the usual hatred has disappeared not only from the population with a dark mindset and less toward us than toward foreigners, but also that it has turned into an unexpected feeling of gratitude for the hundreds and thousands of refugees who have settled here. For this we must pay a debt.

Out of love, he kidnaps a girl

Detained in Tirana TIRANA — Two young men, Arjan Buzali from Zall-Herri and Astrit Basha from Selita, have been detained by officers of Police Commissariat No. 1 in Tirana. The reason was their forcible abduction of the female citizen M.F. in order to force her to live with them against her will in Burrel. The swift intervention of the police prevented them from carrying out their plan, and the case remained at the attempted stage. The documents in this case have been forwarded for further investigation to the Tirana district prosecutor’s office.

Unauthorized construction: the bulldozers’ march begins in Vlorë

Two thousand will be demolished VLORË — Large excavators and bulldozers have arrived in the city, and on Friday the city authorities launched a major operation to demolish all illegal constructions. The two categories of such structures counted so far throughout the city will cease to exist within a short time. Public order forces also took part in this massive operation. Within just a few moments, the first houses, belonging to citizens who had long ago arrived in this city, were demolished. The operation then continued with all the other illegal constructions. In parallel with the action, it was made clear that all illegal constructions will be destroyed regardless of the complaints of their owners.

The Italian hostage: a special ending

In Brindisi it is still returning... VLORË — “We are waiting for Domenico Cinnimo [?], because if you return to Italy they will take him into account. We do not believe that he was truly a friend of an Albanian family, as he says. There is still much to be clarified in this story...”. The prosecutor of Brindisi, Nicola Piacenza, has received a series of denials and every day, and to reassure and denounce in the search by an Italian police body of Albanians, he appeared in the afternoon of the day left for “L” Italian because he was with health and police. Two days in Albanian custody did not make the abducted man, according to the journalist, who says he was a traitor, much of a neighborhood and Albanian [?] said Cirasino [?]. The hospitality that Albanians preserve for all foreigners, and especially for Italians, was an ending, but with a character of insistence from a Cirasino [?], and from the calm that are linked to a cause called Albanian. We are pleased that he is well, but it was with him to leave the Italian police work,” was a lost accusation against which in the information sheet for Albanians. We do not know clearly whether we were saved from a cigarette reduction [?] because this whole part was lost and for the account of those who arrived on the shores of Otranto. We do not know what accusation there is against him. But if he ends up in Italy, he may end up in shackles. Later the obligation was also announced to him, we imagine that when they return him to the valley of speech and of a skull of denunciation, taking with him. For an Albanian character, quite fragile, someone like this Cira, as if he heard them being sorted out and sent to a cell. It was a heavy event. We were freed from wiretaps and the quiet allowed the descriptions of this drama to be lost in time. We do not know what accusation there is against him, but in Italy he could be arrested. We do not know what accusation there is against him, but in Albania they took care that he was not mistreated.
