Nano affair splits the Court of Cassation

Brozi alone. The judges postpone the trial Decision made without the chairman: “The plenary session for the PS leader is postponed to 20 September” TIRANE - The Nano affair splits the Court of Cassation. Yesterday, a joint decision by the 10 judges who are members of the Plenum set the postponement of the trial against the socialist leader, which had been scheduled for Tuesday. The decision was taken at a meeting where Chairman Brozi was absent, and upon returning to the court he found himself confronted with a fait accompli. “Legally there is no reason for such an action,” explains the head of the Court of Cassation, who yesterday found himself deprived of the possibility, granted by law, to decide whether or not to change the dates of plenary meetings. The event that was expected to trigger Brozi’s anger was this time met by the chairman of the Court of Cassation with diplomatic coldness: “I will call the judges together on Monday and ask them to reconsider this decision. The trial must take place on the scheduled date.” On page 3 The Court of Cassation headquarters, with Fatos Nano above

Spectacular escape from the cell

The two prisoners take advantage of the lack of lights Shkodër / The hunt for the escapees begins. A police officer is injured in the chase SHKODER - A spectacular escape, an equally spectacular chase and the Police fully mobilized in pursuit of the two arrested men. Two defendants, Ndoc Lulati and Gëzim Tirana, the first on trial for murder and the second already convicted for killing his father, managed to escape in circumstances that are still shrouded in mystery, on Thursday evening, managing to evade the Police pursuit. During one of their movements, a police officer was immediately alerted, but the car in which he was traveling crashed in the city center. The Police have taken immediate measures by increasing checks. On page 3

Pëllumbi: "Marx is not an anachronism"

POLEMIC TIRANE - "Marx, as a philosopher, cannot be called anachronistic or old, as President Berisha called him, because his philosophy represents ideas that make him a contemporary philosopher." Servet Pëllumbi, the deputy leader of the Socialists, responds just one day later to Berisha’s call to the “anti-Marxists in the PS”. “It is not done for specific political purposes,” he said in a relatively long interview broadcast last night by RTV in the main news editions. Pëllumbi himself did not rule out the possibility of keeping Marx also for reasons of preserving the electorate or members who are still spiritually attached to the name of the German philosopher. Kakavijë, thousands of Albanians return

New wave of expulsions from Greece GIROKASTER - Is the iron broom once again sending refugees back to Kakavijë? It is still impossible to say whether this is a large-scale operation that may continue for a long time, but for days the Gjirokastër police station has been confirming unusual numbers of Albanians returned from the largest border crossing point. Thus on Thursday Greek police escorted buses carrying 1,400 refugees across the border, while on Friday, although the numbers were clearly higher, it is not known exactly how many were forcibly returned. The buses went to the destinations of the arrivals, while the Gjirokastër hospital confirms that there were no injured or harmed people from the intervention of the dozens of fugitives. Their return comes only two days after the high-level meeting held in Gjirokastër and after a strong warning from the Greek side, where Greek Foreign Minister Karolos Papulias and Interior Minister Vairaqis had met in Ioannina with the border and order authorities, where the preparation of 500 more special forces troops in Grevena would be accompanied along the border.
