School marathon begins tomorrow
Education is more orderly, but also more expensive
TIRANA - The holidays are over. Across the country, at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning, the children of the lower cycle, the students of the upper cycle and those who already proudly call themselves “high school students” will be waiting in front of the school gates. For the first time tomorrow and every other Monday, a red-and-black flag will be raised to the notes of the national anthem, a greeting that exists in all European schools.

Elbasan, teachers: Children, not hooligans
Teachers' seminar
ELBASAN - “Teachers, educate the educated children who have not been able to be registered in the warmth of family life.” Just a few days before the start of the new school year, the education leaders in Elbasan addressed calls to the teachers' councils of the city schools.
In the new schools of the city, children are educated, so it is the teachers' duty to deal with the education of those children whom they commonly call “hooligans.” That was the message to teachers in the session marking the start of the regular teaching process. At the meeting organized in Elbasan, concrete figures were even presented. “Over 20 percent of the children on the street are educated,” that is the figure heard in this seminar. Children without parents, children with divorced parents, or with alcoholic parents and in irregular family relationships, are all categories that are pushed away from school. “Teachers must replace the parent in this case; this is one of the tasks of this noble work,” was the guidance given to the teachers. The initiative of the teachers in this district seems to be an effort to raise awareness in a battle that society must definitely win; otherwise we must consider these children lost. In the seminar of Elbasan teachers, the causes of this phenomenon were also discussed. It seems that the main cause have now become divorces. Almost every week in the Elbasan Court an average of 15 such cases are heard. Children outside parental control and warmth automatically mean children in the street. It is precisely this parental warmth that the teachers of Elbasan want to replace with their latest initiative.

Rare, but true
MOSCOW - In secrecy and near a Russian military area in Pskov, even a defense minister and moreover a general can be caught off guard by gunfire. Pavel Sergeyevich Grachev suffered this fate when, a few days ago, he was in the Vladivostok area, simply on Russian soil, while celebrating the 50th anniversary of Japan's defeat.
Grachev, together with a group of his friends, was fishing late at night and heard gunshots. But unknowingly the minister had strayed quite far from an ammunition depot. At that very moment, the two guards on duty there, believing they were dealing with military personnel, without much hesitation fired toward the source of the fire. Sergeyevich also had the luck that their bullets, although they covered quite a distance - and even forced him to jump into the sea fully clothed from head to toe.

"Muslim, but I want a Christian name"
HISTORY
ELBASAN - “I do not want to boast of Hiqmet; from now on my name is Kristo.” The fashion of changing names seems to have taken on large proportions. Just on Friday, the Municipal Council of Elbasan examined forty such requests. Since that day, forty people from Elbasan have voluntarily given up the names with which their parents had baptized them. Now, in their documents, traditional Orthodox names are listed. Kristo, Vasil, Pashko... they are all new names. Everyone has justified themselves by saying that only in this way can they secure a place in Greece; with Muslim names, that would be a failed undertaking. To acknowledge coexistence, the opposite case has also not happened: two citizens have requested to keep... traditional Muslim names. Even in these cases, it seems that work is what drove them to make the unusual request. “We have found a job in an Islamic country,” explained one of them - “and we think that by changing our name it will be easier for us.”
A few days ago the fashion of changing names had become a subject of discussion in the Municipal Council. In the capital, municipal councilors have only in very rare cases approved such requests. The harshest sanctions are in Gjirokastër, where the problems are even more acute. The municipality has sent the latest requests back. “There is no reason, officials note, for such requests; the church and the mosque follow them diligently. The dilemmas of whether the right is granted differently, the requests for changing names will have a different one, and perhaps Albanians will keep those sacrificial names, specialists from the civil status office continued a few days ago about name changes.” Besim Halaj for names.
