"Now we will turn to the Court"

LAW ON GENOCIDE A day after approval, controversy erupts "Now we will turn to the Court" Politicians who were excluded react TIRANE - The controversy over the law against communist genocide is back. “I will appeal to the Constitutional Court.” Leontiev Çuçi, a member of the Steering Committee of the PS, reacts sharply to the law approved a day earlier in Parliament and opposes being barred from the right to run as a candidate. Other politicians have also offered interpretations of “genocide.” “Çuçi, Cani and a few others should not be covered by this law.” Azem Hajdari, Chairman of the SHIK, Defense and Public Order Commission, spoke on Friday before the deputies in favor of several politicians excluded by “genocide.” “The law should have been more detailed,” declares Republican leader Sabri Godo, “because in this way the dry will burn together with the wet.” - Arian Çani on page 3

Two days after the Great Flood: state of emergency declared in the North

Army units help the population struck by the disaster TIRANE - Although the anxiety and terror of the natural disaster from 72 hours earlier have passed, uncertainty still reigns and it is difficult to take stock of the Great Flood and to take the necessary measures, at least the most urgent ones. But the first floodwaters show that this is not so easy. Thus the Shkodra prefecture has been forced to declare a state of emergency for Shkodra and especially Puka. Nor have adventures been lacking. These days Puka is even lacking “leaders,” since the local district officials have set off for “work experience” in the cantons of Switzerland... Nevertheless, there has been the pilgrimage of Meksi government chiefs through the affected areas, which seeks to ensure state support in overcoming the difficult situation created. On page 3

Into the river to save the child

ELBASAN - He saw a child drowning and risked his own life to save him. While the swollen river, driven by furious rainfall, had tried to drag away a young life, a man, by nature, had given himself over with a strong heart to fight and challenged his own creator. He threw himself without hesitation into the raging current and snatched a 5-year-old boy from death’s clutches. The incredible story happened two days ago in Elbasan. A 5-year-old child, carried off by the swollen waters of the Zaranika River that flows along the edge of the city of Elbasan, is rescued by an ordinary passerby who happened to be nearby. - M. Folklore Festival: everything behind the scenes

Curious events of the Festival BERAT - Late arrivals of Albanian artists from beyond the borders seem to have dictated changes to the competition program of the National Folklore Festival. The Kosovo group did not take part in the first evening. Only 16 hours after entering the motherland, the Kosovars nevertheless began to perform on Wednesday at the old city’s castle. Still, obstacles remained there too. Getting a visa for Turkey was easier than for the country where people of the same blood live. On page 11

“I’m looking for a kidney for my sick daughter”

A painful appeal from a family in Tirana TIRANË - “I’m looking for a kidney for my sick daughter.” A painful appeal from the Zenullari family in the capital to keep alive Klarina, 30 years old, who is hospitalized in a hospital in Athens. For the first time in Albania too, donors are being sought to save a human life. The girl’s parents were ready to do everything, even pay for the organ that would save her life. “Blood type O, organ suitability: 20 to 40 years old,” this is the plea of Klarina’s parents, as she waits in the Athens hospital. “We will do the operation,” say the Greek doctors, but first a kidney must be found. Day and night, anxiety and sleepless nights are being lived by the girl’s relatives in Tirana. There, on Myslim Shyri street, in building number 6, staircase 1, apartment number 8, they are waiting for what may save their sick daughter. They hope someone will knock on their door. They have perhaps heard that donors exist and that there are many such cases. And therefore they hope so much; people can save one another, and the girl’s parents know that well. The kidney that would save their daughter they would exchange for anything. They could buy the organ, just as someone else could donate it to them.
