"We want compensation for the 1976 invention"
HISTORY
TIRANA - The designers 16 years ago and the inventors are buying now. The protagonists are the Ministry of Construction and three engineers and the son who acted on its behalf. It was 1979 when three cousins Elmaz Xhediku, Gaqo Prroni, d[...] and Petra Treska designed the prefabricated reinforced-concrete slabs and for this they received only an honorary letter. But they will now receive compensation for what they did then. That is what the court of first instance has decided. Minister Drojri of legislation at the Ministry of Construction, Petrit Çomo, is not satisfied; he explains to Gazeta Shqiptare that "we have appealed the case and we are waiting for the decision of the Court of Appeal".
The designers state in their claim that "even today the legislation with which they work and produce such slabs is based on our study and generates large profits". The profit the Ministry has made from this project is around 164.5 million lek. That is why they have asked the Ministry to give them a share of the profit or to grant them the right to own a construction site for the building of these slabs. "The trial, according to them, was based on the law on copyright protection".
While representative Çomo expressed surprise at the decision to make it "the then law on inventions and rationalizations," he clearly notes that every invention or rationalization is state property." Under this law the benefiting officials are determined; the inventor continues directly as a moral and material incentive, this compensation is linked to rank and the law on Copyright Protection protects every original creation, whereas theirs is only a design".
At this time Xhediku, the sons of Prena Treska, have asked that everything be settled by agreement with the Ministry, which has not been achieved, and the only way to solve the problem has been the court. The lawsuit is based on the fact that: "The defendant party has benefited from what does not belong to it," the document says.

Students in line to buy school textbooks
A tour of the capital’s bookstores
TIRANA - Students, parents, everyone in line to buy books. The lack of "work tools" for pre-university pupils has caused long queues outside the bookstores that are authorized to sell school supplies.
Yesterday the number of those waiting in line to buy school books was even greater because only one of the bookstores that provide this service was open. For several years now, such a phenomenon has been present at the start of the new school year.

Albania chairs the meeting
UN session
TIRANA - For the first time, Albania is chairing the proceedings of the 50th session of the UN General Assembly.
Albanian representative Pellumb Kulla will be invited to the podium at the next meeting to be held. Albania has been elected vice-president of the 50th session of the UN General Assembly. The news was confirmed by the press and information office at the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tirana itself. Meanwhile, another session of these proceedings is expected to be chaired again by Albania. Sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirm that this session has been scheduled and remains for next week. This seems to be yet another recognition that international institutions are giving to Albania’s fragile democracy, which has set out on this fruitful path. Pellumb Kulla, Albania’s Ambassador to the UN, will represent our country as vice-president of the 50th session of the Assembly in the largest body.
