"Arsidi": The protagonists in prison for 13 more years
After the appeal by Tartari, Saliu, Hoti and Xyheri and the protest by Qeleshi and Gjokutaj: A harsher ruling
Yesterday the Appeal Court changed the charges and sentences for the four defendants
TIRANE - To be acquitted in order to be sentenced more. That is what happened to Agim Tartari, Agron Saliu, Ilir Hoti and Ardian Xyheri, the four protagonists of the "Arsidi" trial. As of yesterday morning, the Appeal Court increased the prison terms for the four former Albanian bankers by another 13 years compared with the ruling handed down by the Tirana Court. Along with the harsher sentences, the charges against the defendants were also changed from "fraud" and "abuse of office" to "bank theft in collaboration". The only thing that has not changed is the innocence of former Prime Minister Vilson Ahmeti, who for the second time was declared by the court to be not guilty of the charges that had stood for nearly three years. Also yesterday the Appeal Court ruled that the 140,000 dollars deposited in the names of Tartari and Saliu in "General Bank" in Luxembourg be returned to the Albanian state. The increase in the total sentence from 22 to 35 years for all four together was immediately challenged by the lawyers, who stated that they would soon appeal to the Court of Cassation.

First complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office:
Shefqet Peçi
Accused of crimes during World War II
TIRANE - The first complaint after the "anti-genocide" law has been filed before the Prosecutor’s Office. According to the serious accusation, "Major crimes during World War II" against former colonel Shefqet Peçi, former commander of Brigade V. The authors and witnesses from Buzëmadhi in Kukës are asking for Peçi to be prosecuted for an episode more than 50 years ago. The letter also describes the scene of that day in the village, where, according to the accusations, Shefqet Peçi had tied the men and boys of Buzëmadhi with rope in order to select and execute 21 of them, simply because the village was nationalist and anti-communist. According to the authors, only five witnesses are still alive today, who have recounted the long history of that massacre. Thus, only a few days after the approval of the "Anti-genocide" law, the first complaint was submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office. While six villagers from Buzëmadhi are writing - the criminal case will be based on two articles of the Criminal Code.

Football matches at night too in "Qemal Stafa" Stadium
Gigantic floodlights arrive from Sweden
TIRANE - Even at night, Albanians watch "Qemal Stafa". What until yesterday was only a beautiful dream is now very close to becoming reality. The lighting systems have just arrived in Albania and have been installed at the stadium with the help of Sweden. According to the two UEFA specialists, Vornialon and Kunas - who arrived in Tiranë only a few days ago - the equipment at "Qemal Stafa" has a nominal power of 500 amps, while its supply - through a transformer that will be built specifically near the stadium - will require 600 kilovolt amps. When everything is ready, matches that are currently held only during the day will become a luxury rather than a necessity. Meanwhile, two of the items have arrived at the FSHF from trade, and two of them are UEFA reserves. Even so, the stadium will not be guarded or closed. The footballers at "Qemal Stafa" now have a bigger hope for the Albanian winter, as good news has just arrived.

Appeal by girls: "No afternoon classes"
In Elbasan
Appeal by girls:
"No afternoon classes"
ELBASAN - "No afternoon classes". Lecture hours end late and we are all girls. So some of the owners want us to be afraid. Harassment, thefts or even simple annoyances are usually phenomena that happen everywhere, as in the neighborhood where the University of Elbasan is located, which has forced the students of the University of Elbasan to attend classes partly at the rectorate and at two other local branches, asking for protection. Students from the business, law and education departments. But their protest does not stop there. "We will boycott classes until our need, forced by the threat of a two-armed boy, who shouts insults or abuses us with vulgar language..." they say, and we are equipped with telephones and stop at night on the road home. Being targeted by the university’s new branches in the city, perhaps because of the lack of facilities, has forced its leaders to move the classes of the two branches to the afternoon. The rectorate’s decision has aroused opposition among students, as well as parents. "In winter, when the day gets shorter, classes end around seven o’clock. We are almost all girls and accompaniment cannot always escort us. So we go home on the last buses. That means we are very afraid," the student concluded. This concern has also worried the leaders of the police near the authorities of Elbasan. However, the deputy chief of public order said that women escort the girls to classes, but this is not always possible because of the workload. "Tomorrow there will be public order police, we ensure not the protection but the students," says a police major.
