"Anti-Genocide" accuses Manush Myftiu
The former senior official of the regime must answer as former chairman of the Internment Commission
Five family members from Korça accuse Myftiu of their mass internment in the early winter of 1975. The list also includes the names of Aranit Çela, Rrapi Mino, and Zylyftar Ramizi.
TIRANA - Anti-Genocide accuses again. It makes its third denunciation precisely against Manush Myftiu, the former high-ranking official of the regime who only a short time ago was prevented from receiving a salary and locked in a prison cell. This time, the 76-year-old man "finds" that long ago, in his earlier actions, he had been Chairman of the Central Commission on Expulsion-Internment - he is accused not, as before, but of "genocide against innocent citizens, by ordering their mass internment." Thus, only a few days after the denunciations against Shefqet Peçi - who died in the Prison Clinic after his arrest on October 11, 1995 - and Bedri Spahiu, "Anti-Genocide" is now accusing Manush Myftiu.

Anti-Genocide: the first moral act
TIRANA - Yesterday a development worthy of being noted passed almost unnoticed: Anti-Genocide yesterday took the first moral step: it addressed the High Court, and Manol Konomi withdrew completely voluntarily from judging a case that, in one way or another, was linked to the past. Konomi once again showed the honest stance he had maintained many decades earlier. Whether Anti-Genocide is in line with constitutional laws or not, the Court had to decide this with one member fewer.
The issue of the civic movement of public figures has once again returned to the center of attention. While the harsh debate over the anti-genocide law continues, and the arguments are often spilling over into Albanian society as a whole, someone else, the elderly Konomi, has found his own path to true judgment. "It does not fall to me to give my opinion on this matter," the old jurist must have thought, thus bringing before all society, which is still turning in the vortex of the events and responsibilities of the past, a concrete example: if all public figures acted like this, then perhaps there would be no need for a law to punish genocide, and politicians, instead of gathering for endless discussions or harsh debates in Parliament, would devote more time to economic laws and other legislation. Only, for Albania to do this, it would need twenty people like Manol Konomi.

Reconstruction of former Yugoslavia: Albania is also included in the EU's billion-dollar plan
TIRANA - Soon billions of dollars toward Albania. Following discussions that took place yesterday within the European Union, it was decided that financial aid for the Balkan states that suffered losses from the war in former Yugoslavia will very soon be approved. According to estimates, most of the aid, said to range from 4 to 6 billion dollars, will go to the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania. But Kosovo, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Macedonia have not been left out of the discussions of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union regarding financial aid, although Slovenia has been excluded.

The return of Islami... also into politics
After the "exile": "Professionally I am right-wing"
TIRANA - "A person who is also into politics." This is the phrase said by Kastriot Islami, the former Speaker of Parliament, who is now in Albania after two years of "exile" in Germany. "I am not taking this step because Islami tanga published other political things in terms of the social career where he had established his activism. Where did Kastriot Islami come from in Albania? What are the real reasons for this departure? Does he feel better, perhaps? Only a few hours after his arrival at the Albanian airport.
Your departure from Albania has remained obscure. What were the reasons?
"I know that without many burdens in my life in Germany - one day [we] will have the fate of dictators. And this is not merely my invention, but a historical fact. However, it must be established that two years ago this was a misinterpretation after years; my intellectual position does not accept my position as an extremist."
Is political activity close to the PS always your future?
"From a professional political point of view, I am inclined to align with the right. From an economic point of view, communist poverty asked me from a false standpoint. From an intellectual point of view, I like breadth or balance. Even in the PS I have tried to make my contribution by aiming for balance. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why I am not a member of the PS, although as an MP I am[?] of the parliamentary group of the PS."
And now what will you do?
"I will deal with political-professional activities, I will continue practicing law, and in Parliament I will remain careful to fulfill the voters' ballots."
